PIREP CAF Museum by

PIREP CAF Museum, Midland, TX
It's a long ways from the population centers, but it's hardly off
the beaten track: the track is being beaten to pieces by big rigs.
Passing the time by keeping statistics for some miles, I found about
75% of the traffic to be semi trailers, 25% pickups and SUV's...

Which taildragger by
xxx
So here I am in sunny (OK, heavy marine layer overcast) southern
California. Always looking for interesting/stupid/expensive
things to do, I see that there are a lot of outfits here offering
taildragger instruction, some aerobatic, some spin training,
some just tailwheel endorsements.
They use a...

Portable GPS by

I've been thinking of buying an aviation-specific handheld GPS to
replace the little hiker's model I've been using. NW_pilot's saga has
convinced me that a good unit really can be a life saver.
Any recent pireps on the new models?

Lowrance 600c: Preliminary Pirep by

Pirep Lowrance 600c, initial impressions.
Since no one particularly discouraged me from getting one, I went ahead
and ordered a 600c on line. It seems Lowrance is effectively preventing
anyone from discounting it, so the price is the same all over the
country. I ordered it from Pilotshop.com,...

Any recent intelligence on boring a hole in the sky to SBA?
I know there used to be two restaurants within walking distance. Still
the case?
How about tying down for a few hours? Any way to do that without a big
fee? Which FBO is most welcoming to a transient spam can?

FAA CIVIL RIGHTS SCAM by

This is what happens when you focus more on celebrating diversity and
promoting minorities in the FAA who have no aviation background rather
than doing your

You know the one the American people expect?

Central Valley, CA stops by
xxx
Flying up the central valley from LA, is there any on-field restaurant
that's worth a stop?
Bakersfield, Fresno, Modesto, Madera, Stockton...any reason to prefer
any one over any other for either human or airplane fuel?

Pirep Stockton (SCK)
Thanks for all the recommendations for Harris ranch, but I decided
that I wasn't up to the challenge of that little runway. I made my
fuel and food stop and Stockton, instead.
I'm sure the food wasn't as good. Maybe the gas ($5.76 a gallon) was
less, but I wouldn't count on...

PIREP Lowrance 600c
The trip up the central valley (see PIREP SCK, posted earlier today)
was the first time I had occasion to make use of the Lowrance 600c I
bought a few months back.
It works. That's the good news. With the external antenna sitting on
the glare shield, it pretty much...

Clapped-out trainers, wildfires, and which complex? by
xxx
I had planned a full moon flight up the coast last night, which had to
be canceled (and not for the first time) due to wildfires and TFR's en
route. For some odd reason they don't want bugsmashers trundling
through the water bombers.
OK, sez I, I'll just fly some patterns.
The first Cessna I...

I'm in search of a thread that was made here (actually a few threads
that were made here), where everyone gave stories about what they were
doing on 9-11-01. I'm searching google, but can't find anything.
Anyone want to give me any hints?

Light single into KBOS, KPVD, or KIAD? by

Looks like this Friday I may be picking up a family member on the way
to KHYA. I'll be leaving from KTTA in NC and we're trying to decide
which airport would be better to pick up a pax at in a C172. The
choices are KBOS, KPVD, or KIAD (she's in Syracuse and will have to

Flying through the Atlantic Seaboard by

I am considering taking a flight from central North Carolina to Cape

the Southeast, with IAD being as far north as I've ventured.
Playing with the AOPA planner the route looks pretty interesting -- go
just east of the DC ADIZ,...
