Av Map -- An absolutely stunning color GPS by
Jay Honeck
http://aviation.c-map.com/ProductInfo/AVMAP/ekp3c.asp
Mary and I picked up one of these things in OSH, and I'm absolutely stunned
that there has been virtually NO discussion of this almost unbelievable
"hand-held" here on the groups.
When my Airmap 300 started to get hinky, I started down the...

Software for pilots by
Charles Talleyrand
I just found a program called RPMsound. It listens to your engine and tells
you the RPM. I used this to verify my tach. It comes in versions for the
Windows PC and the PocketPC. http://www.tunelab-world.com/rpmsound.html
I also have a weight and balance spreadsheet in my PocketPC.
I have some...

YAGQ (Yet Another Gyro Query) by
[email protected]
It looks like the AI on my Cherokee finally bought the farm. My
friend who just flew it on a cross-country said it laid over and died on
the way.
So, the question is, used, overhauled, or new? Any thoughts on
this? Brands to get/not get? I'm leaning away from overhauling the gyro,
since I...

What is the proper length?
Since my old one departed in flight, I have nothing to measure the new one

Lightspeed -- Was:Oshkosh 2003 Redux by
Jack McAdams
Everything was trimmed!! (-;
Counterpoint to the Lightspeed QA 'issue':
I have a 20XL and a 30XL. Both have performed flawlessly from the day
I got them. Maybe I'm just lucky, but that never happens! To be fair,
I don't listen to music in the air so I am unqualified to comment on
the audio...

J-3 Checkouts/vacations by
Dave
I fly a Gulfstream 3 and am looking at semi-retiring next year.
I plan on getting a Piper Cub, and offering a package vacation which
would include a J-3 checkout, sunset boat ride, and a week in a
condo/house on or near the beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama. There would be
other goodies offered such...

sump drain cleaning by
Mike Noel
I have seen this discussed before, but couldn't come up with any hits on
Google. The sump drains on one wing an at the engine are running very
slowly, so I suspect they need to be cleaned. Also, the one that does drain
well continued to drip after I had drained a fuel sample until I had...

Navion Parts Availability by

What is the parts availability like for 1940's vintage Navions?
Not bad at all. One guy just bought the contents of the Navion factory.
From what I've heard, the people that bought the paperwork are trying to
make the parts considered bogus, but I don't think they have a...

When does an engine needs an overhaul? by
Victor
When does an engine needs an overhaul? There are several indications
that the engine is comming to the end of its life. But what do peolple
really look for to decide an engine is to go to overhaul.
Low oil pressure, High oil temperature, Low cylinder compression, Loss

Cessna 150-152 club forum crisis by

As a member of the 150-152 Club I'm going through withdrawals now that
the plug has been pulled on the Yahoo forum. I may not have posted
very much there but I guess I do check in to read what's new every
other day or so.
I sincerely hope that it's back up and running soon with no loss of

#2 OBS, what would you do? by
Snowbird
Our #2 OBS is a KI-201C. Our avionics guy rescued it when it turned
out to be inop after we bought the plane, by soldering in a $10
capacitor or some such, and it worked flawlessly for about 5 yrs.
Now a 10 degree change on the OBS only produces half deflection.
This time same avionics guy can't...

An A&P mechanic at the flight school I am attending is considering buying a

for all maintenance - that is buying repair parts - he will do the labor.
While I haven't...

Static RPM in '74 Archer? by
Bob Chilcoat
My partners and I have all noticed that takeoff roll and climb in our Archer
is a bit long and anemic, respectively. The partner who has had a share the
longest has said that normal TO RPM has always been around 2,250. One of us
recently flew a Cherokee 180 (same engine) that climbed much better...

Cessna 150 lost power with AD 96-12-06? by
Ozzy Countin
I think you gona Win some hp, that you were loosing to preignition
particullarly if you use autogas, because the effect is the same of
predetonation, wich stole a lot of power and make excessive heating and
wearing. The retard brings the explosion to the best time, producing
power (pression)...
