Where are they now by
Its the Kleeneze Man
Its been about two years since I last looked at this NG.
What's happened the to the old regulars...
Fly Giros,
Badwater Bill,
Ron Pilot,
There was a guy that flew for PHI but can't remember his name. Had a lot of
respect for him. Always answered questions clearly, concisely and with
humour.

where can you fly? by
Armitage Shanks
Hi,
Once you're a qualified private pilot, where can you/can't you fly?
For instance, say I spot an interesting cloud formation. Can I just
take off, fly up to it, ascend the vertical walls of the cloud and fly
through its troughs and valleys in exploration of a formation that
will only ever occur...

where's the THRILL in flying? (read this one) by
BW
I was searching through some past articles trying to answer the above
question and came across someone who wrote this:
"I can tell you that the thrill of soloing, being THE ONLY ONE in
charge of your continued success, is the thrill of a life time"
You might have guessed that this person was a...

Which GPS? by
steve
Am looking to purchase a GPS. As this is the ROTORCRAFT forum I don't
need to say (but I will) that the gps must be easy to see, easy to
operate (1 handed?) and light weight (in case strapped to kneeboard).
I have been looking at the Garmin GPSmap 196. It has a black and white
screen not the color....

Why are so few gyrocopters developed? by
Joachim Colling
To me the gyrocopter principle seems to be much cheaper (and safer?)
than the heliocopter. Why has development of medium and larger size
gyrocopters stopped? And smaller are also very few?

Why did this helicopter crash ? by
Iwan Bogels
Hi everybody,
This week I have uploaded a video of a helicopter crash on my website
(www.dappa.nl/crash.htm). Does anyone have a clue about the failure that
caused this crash? It is definately not an engine failure or a tail rotor
failure, but it still looks like a spectacular decend.
For the...

Why do gyros use tilt head rather than swashplate by
Phillip
Would a gyro with a swashplate ( just for pitch control) fly any different
(better, worse) than using a tilt type rotor head? Just more complex?
Also, I've seen some photos of early kit helicopters that appear to have
just a tilting head (no way to auto-rotate ?). Isn't this a bit of a death
wish?...

Why is R22 so expensive? by
NewsMonkey
I was told recently that a used R-22 Beta goes for around $120-$140K.
If this is true, why are they so much more expensive than prop aircraft?
Thanks.

Howdy group,
I just got my private pilot certicate (for airplanes) last week and I'll
soon be starting on my gyrocopter certificate. (Actually I've already got
16 hours of dual logged in a gyro, and by next spring I plan to have a two
place gyro of my own.)
My question is this:
Will experience a...

I am compiling information on wire strikes for both airplanes and

appreciate hearing about it. For those who access government sources
perhaps you'll share directions with us? NTSB has sent some info but I

Dennis had to eliminate the maneuvers requiring abundant power and...
