Pulse jet active sound attentuation by
Jay
In an earlier post I read somewhere that the pulse jet is a device
that converts fuel into noise. Someone else had suggested firing 2
engines 180 degrees out of phase with each other to cancel the sound.
If the 2 engines were stacked one over the other, then you might
actually be able to cancel a...

Prop balancing and assorted observations - long by
Dave Hyde
I've had a kind of unnerving vibration in my RV-4 since first
flight. I looked into harmonic dampers, but they're pretty
expensive, so I decided to give dynamic balancing a shot first.
$200 and 1 hour later, my engine runs *much* smoother. It
measured 0.3+ ips on the first run, so the guy weighed...

More Drywall Gussets by
Veeduber
To All:
As promised, here on this Newsgroup about six weeks ago, I've posted a snapshot
of a rib gusset made from fiberglas drywall tape and polyurethane glue.
The photo is in the Files archive of the Fly5kfiles Group on Yahoo, in the
Practice Wing folder.
Other rib gusset experiments of...

ELT antenna -- Pitts by
Al MacDonald
Greetings,
I recently added an ICOM A200 to my Pitts S-1C. The previous owner had an
ACK ELT installed just behind the seat with the antenna on the belly skin.
I originally thought this wasn't a good place for the antenna as a
relatively high speed dirt encounter would most likely take out the...

Sonerai Wing Plans for study? by
rocketeer
Hi Group!
I have been away so long. I am not someone any out there are familiar
with. A lurker at best.
I am now ready to start building my Renegade Formula V again. But, the
wings are wood...
Does any one have any study plans available for the Sonerai I? I would
like to see what can be done for...

Garmin G1000 by
Corky Scott
In the latest AOPA magazine there is an article on one of the latest
Diamond aircraft which is equipped with dual Garmin G1000's.
I was really impressed in many ways by the units. Compared to a
normal AI, the things are HUGE, they're something like 10.5 inches
diagonally. It's like looking at...

Radio squeal by
Gerrie
I know this subject has come up often in the past and I have checked
back on most the old postings for a cure but still don't seem to be
able to solve the problem.
The aircraft is a Koala (Fisher Products, all wood and fabric). Radio
fitted is a Narco Com 810 with Telex headsets. (I know it's not...

Rotax 912 questions by
RPar
Hi all.
I have recently completed my airplane and have begun taxi testing. For
an engine I chose the Rotax 912. I purchased the engine from a
Trade-A-Plane ad where it was advertised as being "new in the box".
When I inspected the engine prior to buying it did appear to be brand
new and was still...

Rubber Band Powered Aircraft? by
COLIN LAMB
Ok, it would not be practical for a family flyer - but is anyone currently
experimenting with a rubber band powered aircraft? Any websites regarding
how much power is available, and for what duration?
I found some information on rubber band powered aircraft in the 1800's, but
few details. Seems...

War Stories: Good degreaser? by
B2431
I've heard of them doing up to
150 octane (I don't know how that's chemically possible, but that's
what they say)
It's not based on the hydrocarbon octane anymore. Most automotive gas pumps
have the formula decal.

Alternative O-290 cylinders by
Gene Z. Ragan
Hi,
I am wondering if V0-435 cylinders can be used as replacements for the
original 0-290 jugs.
This is for non-certified use. I have also heard of an O-320 cylinder
modification. If anyone could give me some advice, I would greatly
appreciate it.
Thanks!

Marker Beacon Antenna - Paging Jim Weir. by
Bart D. Hull
Does the marker beacon antenna HAVE to be the length stated in your manual
or can it be scaled down?
Reason I ask is I don't have the length available in my fuselage without
going over large metallic objects. (Like a oxygen tank or rear tiedown mount.)
Thanks for your support.

Finnish Aeronautical Engineering Abbreviations by
Ron Wanttaja
I received a package that includes the original Finnish report for the
FAR-23-like load testing of a Fly Baby in 1977. At that time, the Finnish
National Board of Aviation required formal testing of homebuilts just like
production aircraft.
Fortunately, the package includes a translation into...
