Cobra maneuver in a su-31 by Gordoux
Hi, In the 'Motegi Grand Prix' video at http://www.fulldeflection.com , one of the pilots performs a maneuver which looks like a 'Cobra'. Should it be called the cobra, or something else ?? I think the pilot is Svetlana Kapanina in her Sukhoi.

Sonic boom over Washington? by Charles Packer
A big boom over Washington D.C.around 9:30-10:00PM EDT tonight (Friday, June 20) must have been the sonic variety. Sonic booms over Washington are rare -- like never -- hence worth remarking on, hence this posting. -- Charles Packer http://cpacker.org/whatnews mailboxATcpacker.org

Use of FLaps in emergency situations by Tman
Hi, I've never been in these emergency situations, but have had a few scenarios where it has come close enough to get me thinking what would I do if the scenario was a touch worse (and, well, of course, how to avoid getting that close in the first place). One thing I'd like opinions on is the...

LAHSO Procedures by RandyL[_2_]
I have a question that has come up in another newsgroup, that I have always wondered about. When I received my flight training, my instructor told me not to accept any Land And Hold Short Operations (LAHSO) instructions from ATC until I had received training in those procedures - which I never...

Congested Area? by Dallas
What's your opinion, is this a congested area or not? http://tinyurl.com/3okuon My take is that this is an "other than congested area", but a recent article in AOPA magazine discussing an FAA ruling gives congested area a pretty broad definition. I've been assuming "congested area" = pretty much...

Conventional v tricycle gear by [email protected]
Other than the 'holier than thou' aspects of taildraggers and their pilots, what are their real advantages? Has it to do with prop clearance on unimproved fields, or fatter mains being better in that same environment? Does anyone know if, with the same level of experience pilots, they have a better...

Sad News: Michael Masterov by Journeyman
Long-time poster Michael (thisoldairplane.com) died yesterday, June 24 in Berrien County, Michigan when his motorcycle was hit by someone who apparently ran a stop sign. The other driver was killed too. Local media is thin on the details. Micheal's funeral will be in New Jersey on Sunday at Wien...

Ideas for fun Oshkosh activities for my 8-year old by Doug Wells
I'm taking my 8-year old daughter to Oshkosh this year and was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for some fun activities that she might enjoy while we are there. I've been to Oshkosh before but have never taken any of my kids. We are camping onfield and will have access to a car. Any...

Et si Vieira avait raison ? by Ilkka Holmström
Aikoinaan kun maailmalle alettiin levittämään arveluttavasti geenimanipuloituja kasveja kertoiltiin miten tarkoin kasvien ominaisuuksien leviämiset on estetty. Ja kuten tapana on silkkaa vedätystä virannomaisiltamme, EU:sta jne. ydintyyliin kaikki! M.T. 12.05-08: "Glyfosaattia kestävät rikkakasvit...

I've been out of RAP for about 9 months due to a crazy work schedule and a blown up pc. But I reconnected with my news server last week....and wow. What has happened to our group? R.A. Student is even worse? Is this a sign of the crappy state of GA or just another example of unmoderated...

Landing to shutdown - KJAN by [email protected]
Small things entertain me and being marshalled in is one of them, so I video'd that on my trip over to KJAN for some avionics work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvjNGU7tyrc is the video. 10 knot Xwinds gust to 16 knots on the approach which I thought it would be a bigger deal then what it turned...

Letting it lapse by Wizard of Draws[_5_]
I think I've come to the conclusion that I will let my IFR rating lapse. As it stands, I seem to be flying mostly to keep the rating current, rather than flying for the enjoyment. I don't really go anywhere, the wife won't fly with me, and the skyrocketing cost is making me look hard at the...
