Which Plane To Purchase by JCforever
Hi All I'm 6' 7" tall, 270lbs and am looking to purchase my first airplane. I am looking for make and model of a single engine aircraft that I would be able to comfortably fit in. A lower seat position would be prefered as well so my head isn't too close to the roof. Thanks

Crows Landing Airport by buttman
Theres this really weird airport in my area called Crows landing. Its charted on the sectional just like any other airport, except it had the word "(CLOSED)" written underneath. Does anyone know why they chose to chart is like that and not the normal circle with an "X" through it? I've been doing...

Military Paint Schemes by Marco Leon
Something I've always wondered: are there any restrictions on how an owner can paint their aircraft with a military paint scheme? In particular, the L-39's have some very authentic-looking and current US military paint jobs and I wonder if owners have to follow guidelines when painting...

Cheap Airplane by Phil
Recent discussions about whether or not general aviation is dying prompted me to start thinking about why it doesn't seem to be possible to build a really cheap airplane. I know that you can buy a trike or an ultralight for around $20,000. But you can't really go cross country in one of those,...

Lost a friend today by Paul Tomblin
Back in May, I finally got a chance to ride along in a friend's float plane, and he even let me do a couple of take-offs and landings. I was hoping that since his plane partner had lost his medical, I could convince him to take me on as a plane partner. Today, that plane crashed, and my friend...

Drudge: A Duel in the Sky by Gattman[_2_]
Found on today's Drudge Report NEW YORK: The summer travel season is building toward its Labor Day peak in the United States, and fliers are growing ever angrier about delays. Now, the beleaguered airline industry is trying to shift the blame onto an unlikely villain: corporate jets, which the...

Off in the weeds by Dan Luke[_2_]
It was the second flight of the day for the conservation organization I do volunteer flying for. The local Baton Rouge guy bird-dogging illegal Cypress logging had me set up to take him, a reporter and a cameraman from the Fox TV station up to video the bad guys at work. 4R is the shortest...

If GA is down, why aren't used aircraft prices? by Dallas
If the number of private pilots is down from 299,000 to 236,000, why are prices for used aircraft maintaining and even out pacing inflation? Economics 101, first day of class - price is determined by supply and demand. Yet I've noticed over the past couple of years the average price for a late...

Camouflaged UAVs??? by Neil Gould
After reading the comments in the article "..." in the current AOPA pilot, I'm angered that someone things it's reasonable to put the responsibility on VFR pilots to "see and avoid" a camouflaged UAV. What could possibly be the rationale for such a decision? Neil

the DC-3 by Kevin Clarke
Not the plane, the airports. The Washington DC area airports KCGS, KVKX and W32 operate with additional security requirements as specified under SFAR 94. I was going through those requirements to understand what I have to do to land at CGS. I'm not really asking about that, I'll go through that...
