Glider school by
brhood
My Pacific NW location doesn't lend itself to consistant instruction,
I have to work around weather, the instructors work schedule and his
glider rides. (Although he is very good and the 'trainer' is a
DG1000(!). The local clubs have similar issues. I'm considering going
off somewhere for a week of...

Accelerated license course? by
Deane
In Australia I have heard there are places where you can get your
sailplane license in a week of continuous training. I already have much
aviation experience (HG) and would like to get my sailplane license but
balk at driving the 4 hours round trip to the closest sailport, about
40 times to get the...

Region 8 Contest by
[email protected]
I see there are only 12 signed up to fly in Region 8, too bad, it is a
great place to fly!! I have driven 750 miles for the past several
years, hope the "locals" will support their own.

Cracking welds on older Komet trailers by
Bill Daniels
Last week I noticed a growing hump in the floor over the axle of my Komet
trailer.
Investigating, I found cracked welds where the axle attachment subframe is
welded to the lower longerons of the welded steel truss that makes up the
sides of the trailer. The rear welds on the subframe had failed...

Reserve Parachute and TSA by
Jeffrey Banks
Hi all,
On the second leg of my airline trip the TSA decided there was
something inside my parachute that needed further physical inspection.
They called me back to the inspection area and asked me to "unpack" my
chute. I explained that it was a reserve and I was not qualified to
repack, and then...

Incipient Sinner
Is there anyone out there with an aircraft near Penn
State they'd be willing to rent out for a week around

Tomorrow, May 27, I will be at Cannon AFB in the Clovis/Portales Area.

P-40, a B-25, a jet powered truck, and a jet powered GLIDER. My old
PIK-20B is there,...

Bigger Battery holders from glider manufacturers by
Gary Emerson
This group sees as a recurring post people looking to get more
electrical power.
To go from a 7ah standard gel cell to the same battery with 12 amp hours
would be a 70% increase in power, but the key will be manufacturers who
will modify their existing battery holders so they will accept a...

Tree flying??? by
Gary Emerson
Can anyone post "the rest of the story" about the AS27 that went into
the trees, yet survived to land somewhat damaged at a later airport?
C'mon, can't post just that and leave us hanging.....

Soaring Magazine Cover Photo by
Gary Osoba
The June 2006 issue of Soaring just arrived in the
mail, and it incorrectly
identifies the glider on the cover as a 'Schweizer'.
Unless I am mistaken or
he has sold it, the glider pictured belongs to Wayne
Spani and is a
beautifully restored Ka-8.
I had the opportunity to fly it once, and it is a...

Looking for Stuart K. Schwartz ? by

Hello All-
Sorry to bother with this kinda question. A lost friend of mine was a
pilot and when I googled his name, it came up in an e-mail response to
a question in this group. If any of you might know Stuart Schwartz,
would you please pass this onto him. I knew him in California, but I
know he...

SSA-OLC League scoring by
Mark628CA
Holy Cow!
I thought the Formula 1 scoring was really neat, until the Moriarty
weather hammered us!
Saturday was windy, and a lot of our top dogs were heading out to the
Region 9 contest. Nobody flew. Sunday was the same- it was flyable, and
there were HUGE dust devils indicating big-ass lift....
