Still hear by Roger Long
I'm still around but thinking a lot about boat since we just bought a 32 foot sailboat. I'm mostly posting this because posts I'm making to rec.boats.cruising aren't showing up and I can't figure out why. If this post doesn't show up, would someone please let me know? -- Roger Long

Garmin 96c glitch? by Barry
Anyone out there using the Garmin 96c handheld GPS? I have discovered a glitch that may be a significant firmware problem on the 96c (and maybe the 96). When projecting a waypoint on a bearing from between 165 to 181 degrees FROM any existing waypoint in the 96c's internal aviation datatbase on...

C-130 accident by Jay Honeck
http://alexisparkinn.com/c-130_accident.htm The pictures of this remarkable crash were forwarded to me by a fellow who is apparently in Iraq, judging by his assessment of the situation. (I've seen these pix posted in other places, but not with the details he provided.) The C-130 in question...

Fuel Burn for Mits by Bravo8500
Could someone who flies mu2's (I'm thinking short body other than solataire) help me with these questions? What altitude would you pick for a 300nm trip, no winds or wx considered? What's your fuel flow/hour in climb at sea-level? What's the flow/hour in climb at 25,000? Can you expect at least...

Diamond DA20-C1 pirep by Dan Luke
The local flight school bought one of these and I took a checkout in it last Friday. I didn't plan on ever renting it, but I wanted to try it out because it looks so cute and I'd never flown a new airplane before. It's probably unfair--after all, the DA20 is a much newer design--but I was...

folding bicycle - Cardinal RG by Stephen N Mills
I am planning to buy a folding bicycle for use in Vicky (N2679V - Cardinal RG '75). Eventually there will be two bicycles, his and hers. Occasional use for trips up to 5 or 10 miles in moderate hills, no mountain biking, no centuries. More than three speeds would be nice but I don't know...

Reporters saying "TARMAC" how stupid!! by CASK829
Why is it that idiot reporters use the term "TARMAC"? Nobody in the aviation world uses that term do they? But then again reporters usually know abolutely nothing about aviation. What inspired this rant? The recent reporting on the US Airways baggage situation and the Northwest airlines flight...

The NY Times did a short story on this aircraft. Sounds like it will fill a need if full-size versions work as expected. http://www.fanwing.com George Patterson The desire for safety stands against every great and noble enterprise.

I landed at Lakeway 15 minutes before sunset and was fined $1200. I couldn't get out of it even with witnesses. I would completely avoid Lakeway.

Online Ground School / Written Endorsement by RST Engineering
Having just written a website for ham radio "study it yourself and pass the exam", it struck me that such a website for aviation ground school might be a good thing. ( www.rstengineering.com/hamradio ) I'm thinking of basing it on the Gleim Exam Study Guide and charging a nominal fee ($10 or so)...

taking off for the first time by John Doe
I have never piloted an aircraft. I do flight simulation from time to time. Currently I am messing with radio controlled aircraft. There are simulators for that also. Having only simulation experience, but I'm wondering about how piloting is taught. Getting to the point, why not use a long runway...
