Nice flight in the NG-1 yesterday by
Tony[_5_]
I've had the NG-1 out a few times this year, including last weekend here in Wichita where Matt Michael had a short flight in it on Saturday and I flew it on Sunday, also for a short flight. I was still looking forward to a day where we spent more time flying than rigging & de-rigging. Yesterday was...

having fun in Moriarty by
Tony[_5_]
Kirk signed his last post "having fun in Moriarty". Right he is, even though we've had two no fly days everyone seems to be having a great time. Kirk and Cliff Hilty seemed to have an especially good time last night dancing with my sister!!!!
By the way did you know the Cherokee kid can dance??...

Region 10 Low Performance Contest by
Tony[_5_]
Greetings RAS, the Region 10 LPC has had a great practice period the last 3 days and we are ready to start racing tomorrow. Keep an eye on the SSA website for tasks, scores, pictures, and reports. Also watch the SSA Facebook page if you're into that.
We'll have 19 on the grid tomorrow with a great...

PowerFLARM Portable Antenna replacement by
Tony[_5_]
Surely I'm not the only one who has broken the rubber duckie antenna on their Portable. I'm pretty sure it is the ADS-B/Transponder (Blue) one and for my flying thats the most important one to have. I don't see the Portable antenna replacements on any of the US Dealers websites. Anybody have a...

powerflarm not receiving by
Tony[_5_]
I'm in Moriarty flying a Sparrowhawk and am having trouble with me portable. It seems yo be transmitting fine but the only time I've received Farm targets is when I'm on the grid. It is receiving transponder and ADSB traffic just fine.
You may recall that I recently replaced as broken antenna....

Empty Towball SoCal to the North, Early December by
Tony[_5_]
It is looking like I will have an empty towball leaving SoCal (Cal City, Tehachapi, Mojave area) and heading generally north in early December. Northern California, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and Washington are all options. The schedule is still a moving target but if anyone has anything that...

John Lubon Downwind Dash by
Tony[_5_]
Flight in progress, see SSA Sailplane tracker or SPOT link. This came through my email earlier today. Looks like good cu field over the rest of the route now and should be picking up more of a tailwind as he gets into PA. My untrained eye on the satellite sees wave potential from the PA ridges too....

Position Recorders, Accuracy, and Badge altitude gains by
Tony[_5_]
Leah and I are down here at Chilhowee for a VSA rally and had an enjoyable flight in the Ka7 today attempting a silver altitude gain for the highly sought after VSA Silver Coin. Unfortunately by the time we were hot, tired, hungry, in pain, and had to pee we hadn't quite made the gain. I found...

Disk vs Drum on Trailer by
Tony[_5_]
I'm sure RAS has an opinion. I'm going to be putting brakes on my
trailer. I'll be adding a Flexride axle and I can either buy just the
axle and buy drum brakes to fit it or i can get it shipped with Disk
Brakes installed. Thoughts?

Gold Distance Newspaper article by

After my gold distance flight in the Cherokee the locals I met gave me
the email address for the local newspaper editor. They've got a
weekly paper so I submitted an article with a few pictures. I thought
it turned out pretty well. made the front...

Zero to Hero in one flight by
Tony[_5_]
Back in the good old days the Diamond Goal did not have to be a closed
course. Did anyone ever go from no badges whatsoever and do a +5 hr
declared 500+km straight distance flight along with a 5000 meter
altitude gain to claim Silver, Gold, and all 3 diamonds on the same
flight?

Another Downwind Dash by
Tony[_5_]
Saturday was the Kansas Kowbell Klassic free distance contest. Held
annually on the first safe saturday after the first full moon after
the Summer Solstice. The Cherokee and I had a good flight, making a
distance of 167 miles to a nice wheat field in southern Nebraska.
Flight report is on my...

Cherokee Kid goes Glass by
Tony[_5_]
Well I've had a few flights in fiberglass gliders. A hop in the
DG-1000 in Marfa was the first. I've also taken a ride in a Grob 103
although I was mainly an instructor passenger on that flight. Today a
friend and sometimes student let me fly his Salto. What a hoot! I
had read through several...

double wide trailer by
Tony[_5_]
i know its been done a few times. I've heard of a husband/wife duo of
Libelles that had a double trailer. Also I've seen a double 1-26 open
trailer. Leah and I only have one pickup but two gliders and tend to
like to go places together. I'd like to solicit opinions (dangerous
thing to do here!)...

Tasman Vario on Static by
Tony[_5_]
OK, I'm 99% sure that this won't be an issue but everything in the
literature for the Tasman vario's says it only needs connected to a
total energy port. No total energy on the Cherokee II but I suspect
the tasman will work OK hooked to static just like my current Winter
vario. It will just be non...

I made it back by
Tony[_5_]
Somewhat revolutionary (for me), I actually returned to my point of
takeoff yesterday after a good cross country flight. I took the new-
ish to me NG-1 (a modified BG-12/16) out for a 300 km FAI triangle.
Had a good time, finished the task, and didn't need a retrieve. I can
see why you guys like...
