Voluntary CAS Required by
randall g
Here in Vancouver BC, Nav Canada is proposing some airspace changes.
Among other things they are pushing "voluntary CAS (collision avoidance
system)" on the grounds that they believe it is affordable now. Is it
really? Anybody have this?
A cryptic PP presentation of the proposed changes is...

KAS 297B Altitude Preselect question by
No Spam
I tried on rec.av.IFR and got no response, so I thought I'd try here.
Anybody know what it takes to adjust the alert volume on the King KAS 297B
unit? The volume is killing my ears.
TIA,

GNS 480 Simulator by
dave
I'm looking at an airplane, Beech M35, that has a 480 already installed.
I downloaded the manual and the simulator. The simulator crashes. I
also noticed that it pushes my CPU up to 100% usage. My computer is a
newer 1.8GHz with more than 2G of ram. I can't find any instructions
on the...

Garmin 396 Reception Problems - Latest Observations by
Mike Spera
In my previous posts, I described what appeared to be random signal lock
losses with my new 396. Changing everything did not help. I got the
dealer to swap the unit with a new one and I upgraded the software to
the latest level.
It appeared to work well for over 2 months, however, it started...

Companies Allowing Employees to Fly by
Steve - KDMW
Question...
I have to do a lot of regional travel for my company and, due to the
work we do, most of my work is actually at airports. I've asked my
company if I can use my personal aircraft for a lot of this travel and
they denied my request due to what the company percieves as their
liability in...

2 deg. C too high by
Grandmaster
I just replaced an old probe and receiver for a Digital Davtron 301c.
My old one started reading cabin temp and I simply replaced it
altogether (probe and receiver). My new one seems to read 2 deg. C too
high. Any ideas? The probe is hard-wired from the factory (so, the
probe is correct). The...

Vertex VXA-300 Pilot III by
KevinBlack
Looking at buying Vertex VXA-300 Pilot III as backup comm device.
Anyone have any experience with these. Price is good (compared even with
the sporty's version of about same specs). Icom are a bit pricy. Can get
the VXA-150 for about $50 less, but the 300 looks pretty good...

Exhaust stacks by
[email protected]
Please advise which way the exhaust stack openings on a Continental
O-300D should point. After viewing pictures on the web, I have seen
exhaust stacks with the openings pointing into the oncoming airstream
and also with the openings pointing toward the rear of the aircraft.
Also, if the openings...

Century Ic and GPS by
Grandmaster
Anyone know...Do I need a Digital to Analog converter to connect my
Garmin 396 to my Century Ic? Anyone got any schematics? Does anyone
have a setup like this? How efficient is the wing leveler (does it
hold a track when slaved to a gps source)?
Thanks, Kelly

I'm starting to narrow down my target aircraft and just today started

suggestions you might have as to other pricing tools that worked for
you.

backup for vacuum pump/attitude indicator failure by
Kelly
I would be interested in getting opinions about backup systems for a
vacuum pump failure and/or AI failure. I have a 172P with a single
vacuum pump system, standard instruments otherwise, and a Garmin 430.
I am most concerned about having a good backup if I lose a vacuum pump
or AI in IMC. I have...

Question: Sharing Ownership and Flying Costs by
Steve B
I have a Mooney that I would like to start a partnership with. I plan
on finding a location on the West Coast to base the airplane.
My question is, with a partnership do you need to set an hourly rate
for maintenance or Engine reserves. Would a low hourly rate help to
keep the cost of maintenance...
