Oshkosh Seminar: In Search of Amelia's Bones by Martin X. Moleski, SJ
I'll be presenting a talk on my 2003 trip to Fiji and New Zealand on behalf of The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR). Thursday, July 28, 4:00 PM, Sporty's Pavilion, 06. If any r.a.p. folks show up, it would be nice to say hello in person. I doubt I'll make Jay's party,...

The party prep is done... by Jay Honeck
Okay, the party prep is mostly complete. The food is ordered, the beer is on the way, the Mighty Grape is topped off so that Jim & Gail will have that sweet (and "cheap", at $2.19/gallon!) mogas for their 182, I've changed the big sign to say "Welcome EAA Pilots", the weather is supposed to be...

Mackinac Island & Door County Pix by Jay Honeck
http://alexisparkinn.com/2005_mackinac_island.htm If you're ever looking for a wonderful trip, this flight around the Great Lakes is hard to beat. We were able to do the whole journey about 7.5 hours of flight time (it would take an almost unfathomable number of hours to *drive* this trip),...

Sean Tucker Oracle Airshow by Chris Colohan
I went out to the Wings Over Pittsburgh airshow yesterday, and I have to say that the most impressive performance was the Sean Tucker Oracle biplane act. (The Thunderbirds were impressive too, but super-annoying tackily-patriotic musical soundtrack really detracts from their act. The Thunderbird...

Problematic medical for potential new student? by Doug S
So, after a few years of putting it off (actually..."after a few years of saving enough $$$"), I decided I want to get a private pilot cert. Welllll...from the time that I first wanted to do that (about 10 years ago) until now, I've had some changes in my medical status, which will *definitely*...

CFII instructor as passenger (FAA) by Mortimer Schnerd, RN
wrote: The question, in the context of FAA IR training, is whether a) I (assume I am legally PIC in the airspace in question) can carry a CFII as a mere passenger, You can carry whomever you like as a passenger.

Fair Share by Mike Granby
I flew to a fly-in today with my two sons (aged 1 and 2) and two adult coworkers. My buddies want to pay their fair share, but as I private pilot I am obviously limited under FAR 61.118 as to what I can accept. So, what share of the direct costs should I take from each coworker? 33%? 20%? Or their...

Hurricane Dennis cont'd by Dan Luke
Went to Mobile Downtown Airport this morning to fly my airplane out of harm's way, and ended up leaving it there. I saw the line guys putting the bizjets in their hangars and, with minimal begging and pleading, got them to stuff '87D in there with the Citations and Lears. The building is supposed...

XM and the 396 by john smith
Some posters have written that XM goes inactive if you haven't used it in so many days. How do they know when you use it? It is a one-way system!!! You call to activate it and your receiver unlock code it included in the downlink stream, correct? Why would XM delete your unlock code from the...

New Garmin 396 by [email protected]
So... just got an email from Sportys about the new Garmin GPSMAP 396. It looks pretty cool! A handheld with weather and terrain! Also interesting are the interface features to get TIS from a GTX330 and to be able to change channels on an SL30. This could make the 396 an interesting cheapie option...

Boyhood relationships with older males by [email protected]
I suspect that you won't get many visitors since most boys who have sexual encounters with older males wind up dead as in the below article. Pedophiles are sick *******s who need to be euthenized. POST FALLS, Idaho - Hundreds of people carrying balloons gathered Saturday to remember Dylan Groene...

Duty calls by Dan Luke
My buddy Lamar's engineering firm has landed a contract in Canada and he'll be gone for months. As a result, his Mooney M20F will just sit over there at MOB unless someone else gives it some exercise. As a dutiful friend, I have selflessly offered to take time from my busy schedule to make sure...

Oshkosh Camping Suggestions by Kyle Boatright
I'm sure everyone who has air-camped has a few ideas that might make air camping a little more enjoyable for others. Here are a few of mine: Ditch your sleeping bag. Instead, use a combination of sheets and fleece blankets. Much more comfortable at little or no weight penalty. Sew an old sheet...

Night Flying by Fred Choate
Hey Folks.... I go outside after dark a lot, usually to enjoy the outside air. Last night I realized that I don't generally see a lot of GA at night in my area. I am curious as to the feeling of this group on flying at night. I am talking about VFR. For discussion purposes, I know that when I...

Symbol question: Lake Huron sectional by David Kazdan
South side, towards the west, W83 deg 09 min, N45 deg 08 min, just above the box for the Alpena VORTAC. Is that a shipwreck with mast sticking up, or what? Seems that the water would be too deep there for a mast to be visible. I can't remember ever seeing that symbol before. Anyone? David
