AMT question: Approved Data by
Mark
Hello.
I am studying for my O&Ps and I have a question about "approved data" and
"acceptable data."
I understand that the manufacturer's maintenance manual is only considered
"acceptable data," and is therefore not approved for use in making major
repairs or major alterations.
So let's suppose I...

Least Expensive Flying by
[email protected]
Mention 'The Man From Illinois' and most people will say 'Abe
Lincoln.' And I mean, most people EVERYWHERE. But for me the 'man
from Illinois' will always be the fellow who asked my opinion
regarding the least expensive way for him to fly. To give him an
honest answer I needed to know a bit more...

Cable Tracker by
[email protected]
One of the more troublesome aspects of aviation electrical work is the
fact our wires are usually NOT color-coded. That means you can have a
bundle of twenty wires and before you can do any useful work you will
need to figure out which one of the twenty at the equipment rack is
the frayed one...

At what point is "builder" status conferred? by
es330td
In the thread I started about the 700 mile commuter airplane someone
suggested getting a used Long-EZ. (I would like to point out that my
dream of flying began the day I was much younger when I saw picture in
a late '80's National Geographic of two EZ's and a Viggen flying in
formation so Rutan's...

where to get plans by
Rob_S
I am looking for plans for plans for a tube and fabric, side by side 2
seater, high folding wing, stol/bush aircraft such as the kitfox, zenair
701 or Merlin GT. 65 hp motor like Rotax 582.
If anyone has a set or know where to get them would be greatly appreciated.

Favorite technique for removing rusted screws?? by
Michael Horowitz
I'm disassembling an alerion and am running into a lot of small steel
round headed screws that attach aluminum sheet to steel tube.
Before attempting to remove these screws, I apply PB Blaster and let
them sit 24hrs. then I ensure the screwdriver slot is clean. Then
sometimes the screw backs out...

Home Built 51% Rule Under the Gun by

Committee To Review 51% Rule
Government, Industry Partnership To Review Amateur-Builder Statutes
The FAA is concerned that some builders-for-hire and commercial
"builder's assistance" providers are doing more that the FARs permit
when it comes to amateur-built aircraft.
On September 6th, the FAA...

IVO props... comments.. by
Dave S
I am involved with the building of a velocity, and questions are flying
around about propeller choice. For in-flight adjustable, we are limited
at this time to an electric control, such as MT or IVO. Cost is pushing
our options in this area towards the IVO.
I have heard of some vibration/resonance...

Safety wiring oil filters? by
flybynightkarmarepair
A question for those flying auto converisons - how do you secure the
oil filter?
Aviation oil filters have safety wire tabs. FRAM HP filter, which for
various reason are what I need to use on my VW based conversion, no
got. Oil filters typically go on finger tight. Losing your oil filter
could...

Circular Aircraft Hangar by
Jeff
I remember seeing some time back a hangar design that used a circular
dome style building. It showed GA airplanes all backed in and seemed
like it used the space well. A Google search on round, circular, and
dome aircraft hangars did not lead me to the hangar that I was looking
for.
Anyone...

Well then, what about trailing antenna's? by
john wier
If the big aluminum foil ears on a whip antenna doesn't help, what
about those trailing wire antenna's that are trailed back behing the
aircraft a good distance. I've seen them on Aero Commanders (500
series). I might hook up a spool of wire and one of those drag devices
that pull it out the tail...

Thanks for the Sun 'n fun reports by
Tedstriker
I'm headed for Oshkosh this year myself. Everytime I do Sun 'n fun,
it's so close to Oshkosh, I never feel like going up there so soon
after SNF. So this year, I skipped SNF and am all set for OSH. Better
fly-in anyway. I've also noticed the SNF organazation and EAA starting
to distance themselves...

Sport Pilot inconsistency by
frustrated flier
I am unclear on two Sport Pilot issues: First, a new pilot may qualify
for a Sport Pilot ticket even though he or she takes a medication that
would preclude a 3rd class medical. However, an experienced pilot with
a higher ticket may not operate as a Sport Pilot if he lost a medical
last year for...
