The Comanche Vs. The Hulk by Tim
They were computer generated. Some of the differences in the movie was that they added endplates to the horizontal stabilizer on the tail and there was no cant in the vertical fin. I am sure that they had to make the differences so it would not be and exact replica for security reasons. But none...

Chitwood 500 Turbine progressing well. by Dennis Chitwood
First hover today. Oil leaks in drive system have been subdued. It was 108 degrees with 4,200' density altitude, so the aircraft does have some power.

Military Designations by David Townend
The second printing of "Military Aircraft Designations and Systems" is still available. We were out of print soon after our October 2002 printing so it is good to have copies available again. We are also able to hold the original price, too. Military Aircraft designations catalogued from 1913 to...

Pre-Rotator Powered by Compressed Air? by nuke
"...Liquified nitrogen gas can store a lot of energy, pressure-wise..." Not so. The reason people store N2 in the liquid phase is that the density is high so you store a lot of mass for little volume. Also if you keep it liquified you can store it in a lightweight thin wall tank. To keep...

Tuning In and Hot Take-Offs by Art Cline
Thanks for the memories of the good old Texas sun .. Maybe my memory has really faded but for the life of me I only remember the Hiller Killer H23s and a very few of the new Hughes Mattel Toys. If memory has not totally failed me the H23 had a button "Chinese hat" that was 4 way and we used that...

Inflatable Rotors (Flying Car?) by Mark Hickey

Have there been any successful tip-jet helicopters? by Jeremy Thomson
I'm not aware of any tip-jet helicopters that have made it into production. Please correct me if I'm wrong. At first the idea seems a no-brainer, no torque to counter, no gearbox, should result in a lighter & thus more efficient aircraft. I suppose the devil is in the details. Is the problem with...

Mating Huey T/R blades and hub by Brian
I recently got a Bell 204 tail rotor hub assembly for the pair of blades I have, but am having difficulty attaching them. Is there some secret to getting them together? The blades are a REALLY tight fit into the grips. Thanks, Brian

Why do gyros use tilt head rather than swashplate by Phillip
Would a gyro with a swashplate ( just for pitch control) fly any different (better, worse) than using a tilt type rotor head? Just more complex? Also, I've seen some photos of early kit helicopters that appear to have just a tilting head (no way to auto-rotate ?). Isn't this a bit of a death wish?...

where can you fly? by Armitage Shanks
Hi, Once you're a qualified private pilot, where can you/can't you fly? For instance, say I spot an interesting cloud formation.
