Tow release operations/launches vs launches/starts by
Jim Meade
The Tost tow release system talks about 10,000 operations (Tost terminology) or actuations (FAA) vs 2,000 starts (Tost) or launches (FAA).
What constitutes an operation or actuation? Why are there five times as many (typically) as...

Laister LP-49 TE and polar info by
Jim Meade
I have a Laister LP-49 and am looking for a polar graph for it. I
would also like to talk to anyone who has added a total energy probe
to the vario on this glider. It has metal flight surfaces and a
plastic body with solid bulkheads. Might be a trick to plumb the line
from the vertical stab.

Parachute recommendations by
Jim Meade
I'm looking at a parachute for a glider. Would like to use it for
other flying, as well, if it is suitable. INo clue of the advantages/
disadvantages of any of them.
Suggestions?

Any AC-4/5 “Russia” owners out there? by
Jim M[_2_]
I’m a new owner looking for some tips and tricks. Here’s a couple of questions for starters:
-What breaks first, and how do I fix it before that happens?
-Is there an easy way to replace the main wheel/brake with something better?
-I have two pitot sources, why?
Thanks!
Jim

Schweizer Tow Release Handle/Bracket by

Does anyone have to sell a used (or new) Schweizer Tow Release Handle and
it's mounting bracket? Apparently, Schweizer no longer has them in stock
and will not be making them. They used to sell complete kits.
I need one for my Super Cub. Already have the tow hook and its...

Glider Assembly without Mech. Signoff? by

Can anyone tell me where in the FAR's or other official documents, a glider
pilot is allowed to assemble his glider without having a certified aircraft
mechanic sign off in the log book?

Cessna 182 as a Tow Plane? by
Jim Newton
I would like like comment on whether it is a good idea to use a Continental
powered C182 as a tow ship that would be mainly used to tow the Schweizer
2-33 at sea level airports. I content that the tow speed would not be
comfortable for a 2-33 and that overheating of the continental engine would
be...

Just got back from a preview of the new museum. Finally, another museum

reached 49,000 ft, WWII German glider trainer, hang gliders and some others
I don't recall. Most were suspended in...

Ventus bT/cT comparison by
Jim Pengelly
Hi everyone,
I fly a Discus bT at the moment and absolutely love it. However, I
am thinking of upgrading to a flapped turbo in the next one or two
seasons and the Ventus bT/cT would seem to be the natural
choice.
I have heard conflicting opinions about the various models:
i) The bT has...

Jet turbine reliability by
Jim Pengelly
I'm considering ordering a JS1-C TJ with the jet turbine. A potential syndicate partner is concerned about the reliability of jet turbines from a 'will it start' point of view and a repair cost point of view. I imagine electric turbos are going to be more reliable because of the relative...

iPhone app with handwriting recognition to digitise my logbook? by
Jim Pengelly
I need to quickly digitise my logbook so that I can mine some information from it for a...erm...field landing accident report :( Rather than do it all on paper or type it into a spreadsheet I'm thinking that there may be an app that can help? Any help appreciated.

Rico Vario free to good home by

I bought a wrecked 1-26 a while back and it came with a Rico vario

applied. There is no wiring harness, otherwise it's OK. If someone has
a use for it, I'll mail it to you for the cost of postage... or trade
for low-time Nimbus 4M...

read it yet.

Parts Needed by
Jim Phoenix
The 2-22 rudder is perfectly and physically identical to a 1-26 round tail
rudder. They may even be the same part number. I would suspect the vertical
is the same as well, but I have not personally verified the verticals.
