reccomendations in Phoenix? by
driftingtrack
Hello. i just passed my PP ASEL checkride Saturday and find myself on a
business trip to beautiful Phoenix. Would anyone care to reccomend a
friendly flight school with a(some) decent/nice 172(s) where i might take
either a checkout and some solo time or a dual sight-seeing flight?

are "counter-rotating" and "contra-rotating" interchangeable terms? by
buttman
I'm doing some research, trying to find information on airplanes with
counter-rotating props, but I'm getting a lot of junk hits from
articles that use "counter-rotating" when they should mean
"contra-rotating".
I was always taught that "contra-rotating" was when you had two sets of
blades...

joystick by
Jose
I've been using MSFS 2002 to keep my instrument scan up (and sometimes
let my wife fly it; she's my "pinch hitter"). I have an el-cheapo
joystick which is now insisting that the nose shall always be pointed
down. It's a mouse systems bogeyman, and is pretty terrible (though the
price was...

diagram of a fuel servo by
Robert M. Gary
My fuel servo is coming back from the shop. I wish I better understood
how they work. One day my plane just stated running so rich that I
could almost not keep the engine runnnig. I was pulling about 7GPH at
1500 (normal is about 3). However, if I shutdown and restarted it would
run correctly about...

I finally made it, too! by
[email protected]
First of all, congratulations to John (BucFan), whose posting of a
successful checkride prompted me to write.
I've rarely posted here, but I've been consistently lurking, and I have
learned a lot from the group in the last year-and-a-half. Thanks to
all of you for that.
I passed my PPL-ASEL...

license woes by
gen
Hi,
I wonder if I can borrow your wisdom here. I tried to convert a foreign
private pilot license to a US one, and hit a wall.
On 9/5, I applied for a conversion of Japanese glider license to a
US one at San Jose FSDO. On the application form, I disclosed that
I had a US ASEL license, and even...

New blood by
Peter Duniho
Okay, rather than replying to the individual arrivals' threads, I felt
compelled to start this new one. Is it just me, or is there a palpable
feeling of freshness around here? A certain simmer notwithstanding, it
seems to me that in the recent month or so, we've gotten at least three
other...

hangar doors by

just from a non-pilots angle, whats the reason for the hangar doors to
be the way they are? I mean the 2 part folding types. Is there some
advantage to them? why dont we make car garages the same way?

When do controls return to neutral? by
Mxsmanic
In a typical small GA aircraft, do the controls have a natural
tendency to return exactly to their neutral positions when you aren't
holding them and when you are on the ground? Do they have a tendency
to return to exactly neutral in flight if you release them in level
flight?
The reason I ask is...

Ooops ... incident at Santa Fe by
A. Sinan Unur
I guess this shows the difficulty of figuring out what's underneath you. I
guess if you hear about traffic but do not see it, you should assume it is
right where you can't see it rather than safely away from you. Just
speculation, of course.

Bose X with audio input.. by
Dan
Does anyone know if Bose has a headset in the works with audio input?
It would seem like the next logical step. I'm not sure if the David
Clark X11 is as comfortable as the Bose, and I'm trying to choose
between the two.

East River turning radius by
Gary Drescher
NYC's East River is about 2000' wide. So when you approach the north
endpoint of the VFR corridor there, you need to make a U turn with a 1000'
radius (or less if you're not right next to the eastern shore when you start
the turn).
Suppose you're afraid to fly too slowly because you don't want...
