ILS vs circle to land by
Yossarian
Recently I flew a 172 to SBA. ILS 7 was in use, wind 250 at 7. The
runway is quite long so I wasn't concerned about the tailwind.
However, if I had been concerned about the wind direction, is it best
to ask the approach controller for a different runway? Or would the
tower deal with it? I...

KLN94 GPS and flying "overlay" GPS approaches by
Sam Spade
Peter wrote:
However, I've heard from an American pilot that all the overlay
approaches in the USA work just the same as the full GPS approaches,
in terms of GPS behaviour, auto sensitivity switching, etc.
Is this true?

Anyone willing to email me a Canadian Chart? by
Andrew Sarangan
Can someone be kind enough to email me the instrument approach and
Flight Supplement page for two Toronto airports (City Center and
Buttonville)? Scanned images would be great.
I am leaving on a trip this week and did not realize that buying charts
from Canada will take at least a week by...

What does "Minimum Fuel" mean? by

Callback #318

³Minimum Fuel" Does Not Mean Priority Handling
Recent ASRS incident reports reveal a common misunderstanding involving
use of the phrase ³minimum fuel. Pilots may tell ATC that they have
³minimum fuel with the expectation that they...

procedure turns revisited by
[email protected]
I remember reading a lot of articles and opinions about procedure turns
being absolutely required except for the three conditions in FAR
91.175(j).
The newest online AIM, seems to have changed. Paragraph 5-4-9.a. now
reads:
The procedure turn or hold in lieu of procedure turn is a...

Limiting use of Pilot Controlled Lighting by
[email protected]
Having just crossed the border, and visited a few non-towered airports
in the US, I'm afraid I may have done some injustice by using the PCL
pilot controlled lighting a bit too much. Knowing the somewhat
precarious financial state of those airports, and the electricity hog
the lights can be, I'm...

Honeywell - deleting GPS download accounts? by
John R. Copeland
My experience with Olathe (nee King) personnel has always been good.
It's the Honeywell overlay from other locations where I've seen situations like yours.
Could it be that the old-line Bendix/King people no longer control Olathe?

CFII oral exam guide questions? by
Robert M. Gary
Can anyone point me to an oral exam guide (internet preferred) for the
CFII? I see lots of stuff for IR but no one seems to publish anything
for the CFII specifically. Looking for specific questions on teaching
techniques.

Garmin 396 Weather avoidance.. by
Dan
For those of you with a Garmin 396, how do you avoid dangerous weather,
avoid yellow and steer clear of the lightning strike indications? I am
considering the purchase of one and am wondering how to use the info
safely, but yet with the maximum utility.

STAR questions Chicago Midway by
akiley
Hi all. I might attempt a flight from Ann Arbor KARB, to Chicago
Midway KMDW in a few days.
I have a question about the Midway Cicero two departure. There is an
"obstacle" and a "vectors" version of this DP. Lets say I get that DP
as part of my clearance, with a departure on runway 4R. The...

Garmin 530 trip by

I recently got intoduced to the Garmin 530. Nice box, advertises 3D nav, but
I couldn't find any referance to step down altitudes on the approach. Is
this not available? I find it hard to believe that they would store every
fix and route in the Western Hemishpere, and leave out a vital portion...
