Aircraft design tool ? by flash
My brother, who is into woodworking, pointed this out to me. I wonder if it is of any use to aircraft designers? There is a free version and a pay-for-play, but they both seem to be competent, capable things. Anybody else even seen this?? How about it, VeeDuber? Flash

arcrobatic kit planes by [email protected]
What are good acrobatic kit planes that a first time builder could handle? EAA isn't organized into categories, I'm slowly working through their listed plans.

Numbers don't add up in 2007 Nall report? by Jim Logajan
The 2007 Nall Report is out: http://download.aopa.org/epilot/2007/07nall.pdf But I'm having a hard time believing the numbers presented in Figure 35 on page 24 (which is explained in the first paragraph on page 25). I'm pretty confident that there are more than 2,972 registered experimental...

Engine configuration by Michael Henry
Greetings! My last post provoked a long and interesting series of threads so I am emboldened to make another post. This question concerns the configuration or layout of an engine. I have noticed that air-cooled engines tend to have an opposed configuration whereas liquid-cooled engines tend to...

Owner's Manual Format by RST Engineering
Printing costs have been on a steady exponential increase, following right along with energy costs associated with creating paper from trees, soybean prices for ink, and all the rest of the process involved with creating paper manuals. On the other hand, the price of optical media (DVD and...

Radios, Intercoms & Inputs. by Gig 601XL Builder
As my name implies I'm building a Zenith 601XL. The avionics I'm planning on are as follows... Garmin SL40 and a Garmin 496. I know that the SL40 has a built in intercom and I assume it is good enough for two headsets. My questions is is there an input for the external audio that will be...

Virus Alert! by Morgans[_2_]
I know that viruses are not part of the newsgroup scene, but this one is important enough, that I felt like making an announcement, to keep someone from getting burned. DO NOT open any e-mails that say "Merry Christmas" in the subject line. It will probably be coming from someone in your...

FYI: Dec 12 MythBusters: Airplane Hour by Jim Logajan
"Jamie and Adam take wing to test if a person with no flight training can safely land an airplane and if a plane can take off from a conveyor belt speeding in the opposite direction. Tory, Grant, and Kari jump on some Hollywood-inspired skydiving myths." Quoted from the Discovery channel...

Life Insurance Coverage in Experimental Aircraft? by Carl Orton
It's Saturday, so I haven't had a chance to call my agent, but my wife brought up a question that may nix me building an airplane. If I die in my homebuilt aircraft, does my life insurance pay out? My policy covers me if I pilot an aircraft, but for the life of me I have no idea if there's an...

heat seal or glue? by [email protected]
I'm working on a project and need some advice. My goal is to find the cheapest and easiest way to "laminate" two sheets of fabric together with a sheet of netting sandwhiched in the middle. Still with me? For example.. I'll put a yard of ripstop nylon fabric on the table.

What/how does compression ratio affect an engine? by [email protected]
Hi, So I was fantasizing the other day (as I do quite a bit) about my latest dream-plane-to-build: an RV-9A. (Note that this is fantasy in the extreme as I'm not a pilot yet AND I have no money!) I was thinking of how to power this plane. A Jet-A burning diesel would be great but that's another...

The Wright 1899 Kite Flys Again! ...sort of by wright1902glider
Damned if it ain't flew. Well sorta. On Tuesday we had chinooks here in Boulder, so at lunch I snuck over to Scott Carpenter Park (uh huh that guy has a park named after him) and managed 14 flights with the replica Wright 1899 kite before it rendered itself unflyable. This may have been the first...
