Airshow at Langley AFB by gyoung
Anyone within striking distance of Langley AFB, come see the airshow today or tomorrow (Apr 28, 29). The demonstration performed by the F-22 is absolutely amazing. More on this later. And there are many other great flybys, static displays, etc. Today's schedule is at...

What if... by john smith[_2_]
I play mental "What if.." games when I fly, trying to imagine the best way to handle an in-flight emergeny. One of the aircraft I fly is a 1982 Piper Turbo Arrow IV. Nowhere in the POH does it mention the emergency procedure for a turbocharger failure resulting in an oil fed fire in the engine...

What the wife notices by Robert M. Gary
I thought this was pretty funny. My non-aviation wife has about 800 hours in the right seat but has never expressed any interest in aviation or the airplane (other than being a good method to get to cool places like the beach or a remote area of Mexico). Last night at dinner she was able to rattle...

Skymaster MEL by [email protected]
Posibly a dumb question and one that has been answered before. I did a quick search and did not find the answer. If you did all your twin training in a Skymaster and received you MEL would you be limited to inline thrust twins or is a "normal" MEL? If it is inline thrust only how are would it be to...

DA 42 accident by Karl-Heinz Kuenzel
Hi. Here in Germany we had an accident with a brand new DA 42 in Speyer (EDRY) on 3-4-07 during take off. It seems, that the battery was down and both engine were started with remote power. After take off when retracting the gear, the props feathered and both engines stopped.

MEDICAL CERTIFICATION FOR UNMANNED AIRCRAFT PILOTS by george

Pilot locked in F22 by 601XL Builder
For what a F22 costs you'd think they'd throw in an extra set of keys. :) http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewsr.html?pid=20396 How much crap do you think this guy had to deal with in the ready room?

Questions on VFR sectionals and TACs by Mxsmanic
There are some mysteries that I've encountered while learning to read VFR charts: 1. I see airports with dashed cyan circles around them that I presume indicate Class D airspace (based on the chart legend). However, the circles are not always the same size, and I don't see any indication of their...

Tomahawk 125 hp STC performance? by virtuPIC
Well, there is this kit to boost your Tomahawk to 125 hp. However, so far I could not find statements on speed gain and fuel burn. So my questions are o How fast do you go with it? o How much fuel do you burn? Thanks virtuPIC

Got my Arrow rating! by chris[_1_]
Well folks, after dreaming about it for months, I finally got my Arrow rating! I have a bit over 200 hours total time, 100 or so hours of which in Archers, and now have taken the next logical step. Here in New Zealand we don't have ratings or endorsements specifically for CSU or Retract, or high...

5 Flights to Make Before You Die by Jay Honeck
We've flown coast to coast, Canada to Mexico, for the last 12 years, and we have seen a lot of beautiful sights. There are way more than five flights to make before you die -- but these are my Top 5. Can you add yours? 1. Grand Canyon. Flying over the Grand Canyon is an awesome,...

Another flight done. by Oz Lander[_2_]
I've posted this with all my errors and mistakes included, as I believe in posting true and accurate accounts of what happened. I state here and now, that I know what they all were, and have learned from them. I do not wish to evoke the sort of criticism I copped last time. Well, I was due to fly...

A call on 121.5 by Dylan Smith
The day started off quite normally. I had a day off, the sun was shining, and the Auster was just waiting to be flown. The airfield the plane lives at is rather sleepy on a weekday owing to be a farm airfield with only a few aircraft - so I was quite surprised to see quite a lot of activity. There...

Security at a class D tower by Dallas
I toured the new state of the art tower at Addison airport last week and was struck by all the security measures they employed. The entire complex and parking lot was surrounded by a dense wrought iron fence with a nasty "fish hook" shaped sharp pointed curve at the top. An intercom opened the...

Northern CA Shell selling non-ethanol autogas? by M[_1_]
