Learning the KLN94 GPS by
DH
Has anyone seen this video from King Schools: GPS From A-Z Featuring The
KLN94 - DVD? I'm looking for a training aid to really get familiar with the
KLN94 on the ground... Any other suggestions are welcome... Thanks.

Leaving the community by
David Brooks
One thing - one of so very many things - I learned in my five years of
flying is that partisan politics does not fit into the cockpit. Most of my
flight instructors have, I know, been to the right of me politically. I had
a most enjoyable flight with CJ - although he has since earned my...

Legal or not? by
Jim Macklin
GPS can substitute for the ADF. Radar can substitute also.
So, if the acft has no ADF or the NDB is OTS, so, it could
be.

legal to use home-printed IFR plates? by
Marty Ross
I've never seen the/a definitive answer to this question:
Are there any negative legal ramifications of using IFR plates obtained
from, for instance, the AOPA website, so long as the plate is current
(they're now printing the date range of the plate's validity in the
margins), printed...

Legal Weather Sources? by
Dane Spearing
Aside from a call or visit to an FSS, or DUATS, are there any other
"legal" sources from which a pilot is allowed to obtain weather reports?
I'm not talking about what's actually *useful* here...hell, sometimes
the weather channel is the most useful thing out there...I'm interested
in what's...

Legend for Jepp Charts by
CB
Anyone know where on the web I can get hold of the legend for the Jepp low
level enroute charts.
Unlike the NACO charts the Jepp charts don't have the legend on the charts.
Having used the NACO for the written, I wanted to evaluate the Jepps by
comparing them with the NACOs.
I have a couple of...

Let a friend fly the plane. Legal? by
Doug
One of my students asked me if it is legal to let a friend fly his
plane. Student is legal PIC, not an instructor and the plane has dual
controls, his friend is an adult, but no license. But I have to admit,
although I don't know of any specific prohibition on this, I'm not sure
if I should tell...

Let's Be Honest by
skym
I have a recently installed Garmin GPS430. But I also have a Lowrance
(handheld) 1000 GPS to use. The Lowrance is MUCH better at situational
awareness than the panelmount. Please understand--I have no complaints
about the 430; it is a great unit. However, the Lowrance 1000 is a
very, very nice...

Let's run the FAA like the airlines! by

The New and Enlightened Federal Aviation Administration of

Light gun work with ATC COMS - Video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yw2XtN15qOA
Two weeks ago I was with a friend who had COM failure and that was my
first experience with light guns. Because of this, I thought it would
behoove me to brush up on my experiences in a plane.
I posted my experiences...

Light single into KBOS, KPVD, or KIAD? by
xyzzy
Looks like this Friday I may be picking up a family member on the way
to KHYA. I'll be leaving from KTTA in NC and we're trying to decide
which airport would be better to pick up a pax at in a C172. The
choices are KBOS, KPVD, or KIAD (she's in Syracuse and will have to
fly commercial to one of...

lightning maps by
Jose
I seem to remember live lightning maps being available, similar to radar
maps but showing lightning strikes. However I can't find them. It
seems they would be quite useful for preflight, and as an onboard
weather too. Anybody know where these are (or if I'm just misremembering?)

Limiting use of Pilot Controlled Lighting by
[email protected]
Having just crossed the border, and visited a few non-towered airports
in the US, I'm afraid I may have done some injustice by using the PCL
pilot controlled lighting a bit too much. Knowing the somewhat
precarious financial state of those airports, and the electricity hog
the lights can be, I'm...

Lindbergh Jr's Atlantic flight by
Frank Foss
I saw this again on Discovery Wings today, and I think I picked up on
the following:
The controller (tower?) says: "QNH one-zero-zero-eight"
This is the local altimeter setting in hPa (hecto Pascal)
Lindbergh replies: "three-zero-zero-eight"
Which would be the "normal" / US setting, in inches of...

Linux: generate ICAO SELCAL tones just like on aviation radio by
Dan Jacobson
Gentlemen, I have made http://jidanni.org/comm/radio/programs/selcal :
generate ICAO SELCAL tones just like on HF aviation radio using xmms
on GNU/Linux. Purpose of this program: bring the sounds of air
traffic control into one's living room to impress guests, I suppose.
