Old, bold Sport pilots by
Cub Driver
In its email newsletter this morning, AOPA boasted that it would
provide insurance to older pilots within certain limitations: no more
than 4 pax, value less than $100,000, and -- get this! -- 3rd class
medical every year!
This would seem to rule out flying on a driver's license "medical."

SF Bay Area ---> Death Valley by
Jonathan Sorger
I plan on taking my first trip from the Bay Area to Death Valley (
Furnace Creek) next week. I was wondering if I could pick the brains of
those familiar with the area.
It looks like Porterville - Kern Valley - China Lake is the safest route
to take. I have had a mountain checkout and am not...

Recreation of doomed flight on HISTORY channel by
aviation buff
HI all!
Did anyone out there in airplane land enjoy last night's documentary of AA11
(first to crash flight in NYC) as much as I did? I'm sure there will be
repeats in the near future for those whom missed it.
I just wanted to ask those of you serious airline pilots, whom did view the
show,...

AOPA Security alert? by
C J Campbell
Okay, I know security is important, but this reads like DHS or AOPA have
been taken in by an April Fools prank. I mean, really, a terrorist who goes
by the name of Hijaq?

What section of the Ohio Revised Code says that? I came up dry on the

No more partial checkrides. :( by
Robert M. Gary
I just called a local examiner to ask what will happen if the weather
isn't good enough to fly with my student tomorrow. He said that the
Sacramento FSDO recently told him that he is not allowed to begin a
checkride (i.e. do the oral) unless he believes there is a high
probability of finishing the...

Wasted Trip by

Hi Yall,
Just got back from Winchester ,VA. I went up there to fly an old L3 , but
after having the arrangements made for the last week after I drive all the
way up there, I am told that no one had put me on the schedule. ( Had been
having to reschedule due to bad weather for a month).
Of course...

What it's all about by
Jay Honeck
Yesterday was one of those glorious early spring days that can only
happen in the Midwest. The air was crisp and dry, so that when you
stood in the sun you were warm, but a step into the shade required a
sweater. The wind sock was just flopping around, the horizon was razor
sharp, and the pattern...

Citation by
Hilton
Hi,
Any (good) books on Citation I/II systems and/or how to fly it? Anyone
selling the 'manual'? Any other recommendations appreciated.
I'm *thinking* about doing a type-rating sometime during the next 12-18
months, and figured I could start looking at the plane now. BTW: I have the
King's and...

Beech Sundowner/Sierra PIREP wanted by
Don Byrer
Saw an interesting article in Private Pilot mag about the Sierra.
Roomy & stable....sounds like my kind of plane.
Prices look decent; and the FG Sundowner even cheaper (and more
insurable for a 150-hour pilot than the RG Sierra)
Looking for something that can handle two large adults + baggage...

Reading back altimeter settings? by
Paul Tomblin
Does anybody have a good handle on when ATC wants you to read back
altimeter settings? On a single IFR flight on Tuesday, I encountered
several controllers who I'd check in with, and they'd give me an altimeter
setting, and that would be it, and 2 (both in Canada, BTW) whom when I
didn't read back...

Hello
I'm doing a little poll among you to know if in your pilot activities you
are using Linux applications, for flight planning, navigation reports, etc.
If you have a favorite application, tell me then i can update the

Orlando Class Bravo by

Greetings all,
I'm a low-time private pilot in the Tampa Bay area, planning a trip
this weekend over to Cape Canaveral (KTIX - Spaceport Regional) to see
the shuttle sitting on the pad. I've flown through Tampa Class Bravo
before, and learned that approach control sends VFR traffic flying
east to...

Cigarette Lighter Adapter- Cessna 172 by
TF
I attempted to plug in my portable GPS unit into a 2003 172 and ... I
couldn't. The "standard" cigarette adapter has been replaced with a smaller
something. I didn't have time to look too closely as to what the new outlet
is. The GPS was just a backup and I was just going locally .
Question....

Failure #10 by
Capt.Doug
I was heading down island on Easter Sunday to do a little bone fishing,
cruising at 11,500' in a Navajo Chieftain with a 20 knot tailwind, just me
and some calypso music on the AM radio (ADF for you student pilots). The
autopilot was doing a fine job. Then the right engine hiccupped. It was a
