US N-number a/c abroad by
Joseph Brown
While I was watching the news from an international satellite, they showed a
single-engine Piper that made an emmergency crash-landing on a highyay in
Greece. When I saw it's registration number N-40899 I thought that it
actually came from the US. (That's a heck of a trans-atlantic trip for
single...

flying to your initials airport by
lance smith
Has anyone made it a point to fly to the airport that shares its
identifier with your initials? I was thinking it would be neat to find
LAS and do a XC there, but then I realized I have already been there :

Software for pilots by
Charles Talleyrand
I just found a program called RPMsound. It listens to your engine and tells
you the RPM. I used this to verify my tach. It comes in versions for the
Windows PC and the PocketPC. http://www.tunelab-world.com/rpmsound.html
I also have a weight and balance spreadsheet in my PocketPC.

Lightspeed -- Was:Oshkosh 2003 Redux by
Jack McAdams
Everything was trimmed!! (-;
Counterpoint to the Lightspeed QA 'issue':
I have a 20XL and a 30XL. Both have performed flawlessly from the day
I got them. Maybe I'm just lucky, but that never happens! To be fair,
I don't listen to music in the air so I am unqualified to comment on
the audio...

UTC explosion near RHV by
Hilton
Hi,
I know Cecil asked if anyone had a PIREP about the explosion a few days ago
while chemicals were being mixed. Well, I flew over UTC today and this is
what I saw. There are a bunch of buildings pretty close to each other. The
building that was demolished was a couple hundred yards from the...

Portable oxygen systems by
C J Campbell
I am thinking of getting a portable oxygen system to use on the 206 and
other aircraft that I fly. These hot summer days with high density altitudes
in Idaho and Wyoming leave me gasping. Maybe it is just age.

Portland Hillsboro (HIO) Parking/FBO Recommendations by

I will be flying into Portland Hillsboro (HIO) for a few nights. Is
there a transient area or must I park at an FBO? I will be walking to
the Max/TriMet station, so the closer the better. Any FBO
recommendations?

Airport Identifier Logic by
Jay Honeck
In another thread, someone mentioned that only 13% (or something like that)
of the possible 3-letter combinations are currently used as airport
identifiers. Given this fact, why in the world did they start mixing
numbers into the scene?
For example, why "C89" (for Sylvania Field, in WI) instead...

New kind of helicopter? by
John Ross
I live in San Diego, and besides flying, I like seeing what is passing
through the sky when I am grounded. I keep a pair of binoculars by my back
door, and go running out when I hear an aircraft passing overhead.
Several times over the last few months, I have heard what sounded like a
small bizz...

TKM radios by

A Cheetah I fly has a couple of these radios. The radios have been to the

terrible. They garble, distort, flutter, sometimes one or the other...

I was returning this afternoon from the first flight that I've been

Airport names by
Wally Samuelson
Hi everyone-The thread on airport identifiers is getting a little long, so I
thought I'd start a new one. There doesn't seem to be any standards for
naming airports, except for what the local pols dream up.
JFK is obvious of course, and O'Hare is named after a Medal of Honor winner.
