Crossing an NDB 3 times on an approach? by
[email protected]
Would it make sense to cross an NDB 3 times in the completion of an
approach?
I'm thinking where there is a hold in lieu of a PT, you may cross the
NDB, complete a parallel hold entry, cross the NDB a second time, then
do a racetrack with timing and descent, then cross a third time as the
FAF.... ...

Instrument Student Pilot Filing IFR by
Roy N5804F
Is it legal for a non-instrument rated pilot to file IFR in his own name in
order to undergo instrument training while accompanied by his CFII ?
In other words.
Who should file IFR for a training instrument flight ? The student or the
CFII ?
Thanks for input

Did I violate an FAR? by
Anonymous coward #673
The other day I was under the hood with a safety pilot, but I was not
IFR current. I requested a "practice approach in VFR conditions" and
was cleared for an actual approach. I advised ATC that I just wanted a
practice approach and they said, "We have to put you in the system for
." So I...

Garmin 530 WAAS upgrade - what's involved? by
Paul Tomblin
We recently put a 530 in one of our planes. Garmin says the upgrade to
WAAS is only going to be $1500. Sure, that's what they charge for the
guts, but what is this likely to run to once the shop starts adding their
labour costs, etc. Is another field approval needed, or what sort of
paper...

Instrument Check Ride - What navigation equipment can I use ? by
Roy N5804F
I have started another thread to get a consensus of opinion about what
navigation equipment I will be allowed to use on my instrument check ride.
Recently I installed in the Archer a complete new Garmin left stack
including the GNS530.
I kept one of the old KX170B's and its glideslope indicator...

Fixes provided in routing for IFR flight plans - VFR waypoints okay? by
Mxsmanic
I can't find any guidelines on the type of fixes or waypoints to be
included in the routing description of an IFR flight plan. I presume
you can use things like VORs and (?) airports, as well as airways and
anything indicated on IFR charts or procedures. But can you also use
VPxxx waypoints or...

MSFS question by
Paul kgyy
I have a new widescreen monitor. Is it possible in any of the recent
MS flightsim setups to park the radio stack off to the side instead of
on top of the Course Deviation Indicators?

Approved Flight Sim by
[email protected]
Hello,
My flight school (a very small flight school) is looking at getting a
Sim. Can any people recommend approved sims that are affordable and
easy to run/install?
They would just be using it for IFR training and multi training. Right
now the school has a 172, 150 and Seneca.
Any advice...

Maximum PT entry altitude Notation by
[email protected]
Can anyone explain the reason for the note "maximum procedure turn
entry altitude 6000 feet" on the ILS or LOC RWY 20 at KALW, Walla Wala
Regl, WA? Is this a TERPs thing? Other approaches the same?
Here's the link, I think

IFR flight Sunday by
John Clonts
I flew up to Abilene (ktpl-kabi-ktpl) to pick up my daughter Sunday...
I took off at about 4 into 200 and 1 1/2. I had gotten there early
and planned to do a couple of approaches before I left, but I decided
to go ahead and top off (had about 3.5 hours in the tanks), and there
were a couple of...

a class E transition area with no airport in the middle of
it (there's Stottle Mem 02P, I think that's a hospital
helipad on the edge of it, but I don't think that's the
reason for...

Pls refresh, flying clubs at FRG, ISP, HWV, HPN? by
Michael Robbins
Please pardon the repeat question and the cross posting.
I'm looking to join a flying club, or find a flying buddy, for flights
out of FRG, ISP, HWV or HPN. I can't seem to find a good source. I've
fumbled around the internet and come up with: WFC-HPN (HPN), Nassua
Flyers (FRG), FEFC (FRG) and...

Instrument Rating Foreign Pilot by

I need to get my FAA license upgraded. Currently it is ME, VFR, based
on my Canadian ME IFR ATPL. To have it include IFR, I have to write
the FAA Knowledge Test "Instrument Rating - Foreign Pilot (IFP)". I
cannot find/google what exactly is being tested for the IFP: Is it
questions from the...
