Electric trim by Bruce McFadden
I have a 1968 PA32-260 which has a PET-1 electric trim. It works well. I am ready to get rid of the bow-tie yokes in favor of new PMA'd yokes from Avion or refurbished yokes from Wentworth. My problem is the trim switch. The design of the current switch will not fit a ram's horn style yoke. ...

Another who pays question by Viperdoc[_4_]
Had a major radio install on my Baron- a Garmin 530W and 430W. As part of the install the avionics shop moved the radar display. On the trip home (the same trip where in IMC the alternator quit) I turned the radar on, since there were some storms over my home airport as indicated by the...

Who pays? by Viperdoc[_4_]
First flight after annual, and the alternator light comes on over Lake Michigan in IMC- left alternator belt thrown, which was replaced at the annual. Never had any problems with electrics prior to this. Replace belt, light comes on with application of power or electrical load. Returned to...

Hershey bar wing vs composite wing - how much drag? by Nathan Young
I have a Cherokee 180, with the short hershey bar wing. While I love the plane, I always wish it could go a bit faster, or use a bit less fuel to get to my destination. I have followed the composite homebuilding movement for many years, and am amazed at the sleekness of a composite wing. The...

Cost of ownership???? by Lou
I (like everyone else) am considering purchasing a plane. I've looked up the cost of ownership in this group and came up with some good information. However, I'm looking for a spreadsheet that I can plug the numbers into. Has anyone either made this or know where to download one? It's probebly not...

yet another annual story - day three (finished) by Bob Noel
Nothing to say except wrapped up the annual. 24 hours of time for the two mechanics, which included installing the knots-2-U strobe (which is NOT a 6.5 hour job), plus some of my time opening and closing the various panels. A three day turn on an annual inspection plus an STC install is pretty...

ELT replacement: Options? by Peter R.
I was just informed by my mechanic who is performing my annual that my ELT is fried and needs replacing. I have two choices: Replace the Artex model with the same one, or upgrade to a newer unit that transmits on the new frequency. If I go with the replacing the existing model, it transmits on a...

Need help finding a product in 2006 Flymart by TNap
Last year I saw a product demonstrated in the Flymart that was essentially a gel type adhesive used to hold small parts, nuts, screws, etc. to your hand tools. (I believe this was the only product at this vendor space.) I took a flier for the product but I am unable to find the information in my...

Yet Another Annual Story by Kyle Boatright
Actually, a "condition inspection". Kelly is in Los Angles this weekend, so I have all weekend to play. Or, to do the condition inspection on the RV-6, open the swimming pool, and mow the lawn for the first time this year... Tonight started well. Since the airport is sorta between where I work...

Vertical Card Compass? by Bubba[_2_]
I am trying to find parts for my Hamilton Vertical Card Compass. I bought the thing, Model HI 350, serial no. 274, for my flying machine in 1982 from Hamilton Instruments Inc Since then, Hamilton has gone out of business. Instead of a normal whisley compass, this thing has a rotating...

well, that was interesting by Bob Noel
Today I went over to the plane to put the new tailcone in the plane (awaiting installation), and see the strange wire dangling from the tail. Turns out that the ADF wire had broken. I'm guessing that the plane cover and gusty winds finally wore out the wire. And, no, I'm not ready to drop...

Line in on Terra audio panel by Dico
Hello, I'm going to our avionics shop to have some "noise" hopefull removed from our Garmin 430 com. While there I'd like them to run a line-in to our Terra audio panel... just so I can plug a ipod or something into it while flying longer legs. This, to me, doesn't seem like a big job. I can...

carry a bicycle in a Mooney? by Dave Butler
I have an M20J and I'd like to be able to take a bicycle sometimes. It's OK if it doesn't fit through the baggage door, just needs to fit inside the cabin and not block access through the (only) door. No passengers, just me in the left seat. I'd prefer not to remove any seats. I'm willing to...
