$200 pulse oximeter for monitoring your oxygen saturation by Eric Greenwell
I came across what looks like a really nifty pulse oximeter: http://www.scantechmedical.com/spo_medical.htm At $200US, there seems to be little excuse not to have one when flying with oxygen. Has anyone used one, or have more information on it than at this web site? I think the Minolta Pulsox-3...

$4.04 per gallon at Hilton Head by Guy Byars
Just tanked up at Hilton Head SC. They charged me $3.85 per gallon of 100LL, and then added on a 5% "fuel tax". Works out to $4.04 per gallon. Ouch, a new high. Now that I am back home, I am going to top off with mogas... $2.10 seems cheap now.

$50 SPOT 2 Mail-in Rebate by Paul Remde
Hi, SPOT is offering a nice incentive to buy a SPOT 2 this spring. It is a $50 mail-in rebate that is only available from Cumulus Soaring, Inc. and only from Friday, April 15th through Sunday, April 17th. It only applies to the SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger (SPOT 2) - not the SPOT Connect. ...

$50 SPOT rebate by Eric Greenwell
I notice SPOT is offering a $50 rebate until the end of the year. I also noticed it was $200 at Costco, $150 after rebate, but the online stores still show them for sale for at less than $150. I don't know the specifics of the rebate offer - I have a SPOT already, and my wife loves...

$80 "Sportscam" from Costco by Eric Greenwell[_4_]
This looks like everything we hoped the MD-80 "micro cam" units would be. I haven't bought one yet, but it's tempting, with 2.5 hour recording time, a real waterproof case, audio and video, various mounts, and so on. Look for "Swann Sportscam Waterproof Mini Video Camera with Mounts" at Costco...

"Cabriolet" open cockpit canopy? by Ryan Wubben
Is it possible to replace the standard canopy on a Scheibe L-Spatz III (or any of that series) with an open cockpit "cabriolet" style canopy? Do plans exist? I've seen pictures on a K-6 and K-8 (even a dual one on an ASK-13!), but I'm curious what the process is and what paperwork is required?...

This guide, originally published in Soaring in 2002, and updated in 2004, is now expanded another 10 pages to include information on Mode S transponders, ADS-B equipment, portable transponder detectors like the Zaon MRX, and the "glider TCAS" (FLARM). "Air Crash Investigation" by Bill D
Everybody, do yourself a favor and watch this excellent series on YouTube. Each episode runs about 47 minutes. There are about 40 episodes. They mostly deal with airline crashes but gliders are very similar. The cause of almost all of them is pilot error - sometimes painful to watch errors. ...

"Aircraft Unsafe, Do Not Fly" by T8
Always a good idea to put a temporary placard where it can't be missed to alert a would-be pilot that an airplane is not airworthy. What I need, one week before a contest, is a similar placard, attached to the outside of my trailer that says something like "Aircraft Safe, Do Not Fiddle". -Evan...
