Windsor Tower by Richard W. Graves
I am based at Grosse Ile MI (KONZ) and I was practicing approaches Monday morning at Windsor Ont. The controller asked me to remind all Detroit area pilots that Windsor loves to have us come there and practice. He also wanted me to tell everyone that there are no Canadian ATC charges for...

STOP kissing the Black ASS by RichardC
The CDC is looking just like the FAA Both falling apart(Reference KLEX crash) I wonder if Bull Dikes and former Black Female secretaries and inside the beltway stupidity is running this Government agency also? Political Correctness is killing our Government(Ex. Katrina, two lost space...

flying LPV with Garmin G1000 & King KAP140 WAAS by [email protected]
I'm a little new to this airplane and tried to fly an LPV approach on autopilot. I had the approach activated and was outside the FAF at approx 30 degree intercept, when I pressed AP, then APR. It turned on course properly but never captured the glide path. What am I doing wrong? thanks Rick

currency by Rick McPherson
Hello All, I've been lurking in the shadows of this group for the duration of my ifr training and subsequent passage of my ride. Thanks to all of you for the great info. Now, my question is about maintaining currency, the Regs state:"No person may act as pilot in command under IFR or in weather...

Radio Protocol re "Flight Level" by [email protected]
We just got "climb and maintain 18000" yesterday, which is why I am here now. I content that a clearance to 18000 means using local altimeter, while FL180 would use 29.92.

ILS PRM approaches by Riddler
How much seperation do you get on final? Is there a standard? I know that the runways are like 4200 feet or closer together... and I know that seperation before and while turning to final is something like 3 miles or 1000 feet vertical... but is there any separation criteria while going down the...

CFII signoff needed, Dallas by RM
I'm considering taking one of the intensive instrument rating courses, most of which have a prerequisite of having completed the knowledge exam. Accordingly, I've been working on that on my own. Is there a CFII around who is willing to give me an endorsement to take the test, preferably just on my...

IFR Routing Toronto to Windsor (CYTZ - CYQG) by Rob Pesan
Just got my rating a few months ago and have a few questions; I want to fly from Toronto City Center (CYTZ) to Windsor (CYQG) IFR. The CFS shows a preferred route of: V443 YQO HADAR ARRIVAL I assume I would be cleared via the Island 8 departure and vectored to V443. The HADAR arrival says DME...

Raining airplanes!, next on TWC by Robert Henry
According to the advertisement I just saw, a common source of weather information will be airing a Storm Stories episode on GA airplanes that try (but fail) to fly through blizzards and other weather on Monday (7/21) at 8pm/ET. ugh.

Idents on VOR+DME if one of them is inop by Robert M. Gary
Peter wrote: I am just going through some King video FAA IR training material and it briefly covers this topic. On a normal intercom one has selectors for "DME" and "NAV" and one would ident the VOR and the DME separately. However she mentions a that one can tell if one or the other is...

wonders of VFR on top by Robert M. Gary
The other day I wanted to get a clearance to get above an overcast while in cruise. When I asked for a clearance the controller said it would be awhile because my destination was more than 500 miles away. He said he needed to get me a clearance all the way there even though my intention was to...

Non radar IFR by Robert M. Gary
I just brought my plane back from annual. Apparently the shop forgot to put the transponder antenna back on. I was impressed with how easy ATC made flying IFR w/o the transponder. They did not require me to give the full non-radar reports. They just asked me to verify my altitude and report certain...

I just got some information back from the FAA on why an ADF is now required after several decades of being able to fly the approach w/o the ADF.... "Mr. Gary: The FAA Flight Procedures Office has issued a NOTAM amendment 22C. This amendment states that the ILS Runway 02 approach at SAC Airport...

Flying IFR with Garmins by Robert M. Gary
I just recently decided to buy our first Garmin GPS (296). I had not in the past because they were so far behind on providing terrain. They fixed that with the 296. However, the one outstanding item missing on the 296 are airways. On my Skymap IIIc I can easily fly an airway by putting the white...

Good AI backup, wish me luck by Robert M. Gary
After having both a vac pump failure and an AI failure (not on the same flight :) ) I decided its really time for a backup. I always consider my Mooney to be an "IFR anytime" type of plane, in that I consider it a solid IFR platform. When the vac pump goes out alarms starting sounding, my voice...
