ILS on Garmin GNC 420W by
[email protected]
Does 420W have ILS approaches in its database? I mean, can you set up
ILS approach in 420 to monitor your progress while flying ILS approach
on your good old KX-155? Thanks in advance,
Robin Hou

KLN-90B by
[email protected]
I am considering KLN-90B as replacement for my M-3 Approach. Question
for experienced KLN-90B users: Legality aside, can you operate
KLN-90B in approach mode (doing GPS approaches) with an outdated
database?
Thanks in advance,
Robin Hou

Northstar M3 & PC connection by
[email protected]
Has anyone interfaced an M3 with a PC?
I have a Motion LS-800 running Jeppview Flitedeck. I had succefully
interfaced it with my previous aircraft that had a Trimble 2000
Approach. Trimble uses RS-232 w/ King aviation data format for its
moving map output. I used an USB RS-232 coverter and...

Garmin 496 VNAV question by
[email protected]
1. Are glide-slop informations of LPV & LNAV/VNAV in 496's database?
2. If yes, can VNAV indicators on 496's HSI display this glide-slop
when flying approaches?
Thanks,
Robin

Full flap ILS by
[email protected]
I flew safety for a friend in his Bonanza A36 w/ IO-550 yesterday. He
hand flew a perfect ILS, but it was with full flap and gears down at
around 22 in power. In my E35 Bonanza with E225 engine and low flap
and gear speeds, I almost always fly ILS with flap up, gears down at
around 17 in power. ...

Trimble 2000X Navigator by

Trimble 2000X Navigator? According to this website, it will be
certified to TSO C146a (as Garmin GNS480) and at $6,500, this sounds
like a good deal. I have a Trimble GPS, but I thought Trimble sold its
aviation GPS business...

Lightspeed with Foggles question by
Rod Madsen
I just bought the Hood Lamb and had to send them back. They simply would
not clamp to my David Clark H10-13.4 which have a narrower than usual band.
To their credit, they acknowledge this problem with DC's and suggest
friction tape to increase the girth of the band. Didn't work...to
rinky-dink...

IFR or IFR Refresher? by
Rod Madsen
It's been discussed here before. They are both good but slightly different.
I prefer IFR, and its got more pages.

Speaking of interference (BPL) by
Roger Halstead
I don't know how many are aware of the current push to implement
Broadband Power Line (BPL) high speed internet connections, but is has
some interesting ramifications.
Perhaps Jim has looked into this.
BPL as I understand it caused a good deal of interference from a bit
above the AM broadcast...

Another difference between the US and Canada. by
Roger Halstead
I had a friend ask me today how I'd cancel a flight plane that I had
never activated.
I gave the usual answer...If I never activated it, I don't need to
cancel it. If I haven't activated it past the closing time it gets
dropped. Canceling one that has been activated and flown is
*usually* not a...

Vista64 experience with Jeppesen, Garmin, and FSX by
Ron A.
Here is my experience with the release version of Vista64 Ultimate so far as
it relates to Jeppesen, FSX and also Garmin. Vista is available as a
developer's subscription on Microsoft's MSDN right now.
I downloaded Vista64 Ultimate from MSDN and installed it on a new machine I
built. My old XP...

Why would someone choose to fly VFR on top? by
Ron Garret
Subject line says it all. In light of the fact that VFR on top subjects
you to both VFR and IFR constraints, why would anyone ever choose to fly
VFR on top? I can only think of two possible reasons:
1. There happens to be clear air at a +500 foot altitude and not at the
corresponding...

Airport lat/lon database by
Ron Garret
Anyone know where I can find a list of US airports and their lat/lon
positions? I know about the airnav site, but that only lets me get one
at a time. I need a list that I can feed into a database. (I only need
US airports with instrument approach procedures.)
Thanks,
rg

Portable IMC emergency panel by
Ron Garret
Howdy,
I fly a Cirrus SR22, an all-electric plane. It has dual-redundant power
busses, which makes total electrical failure unlikely, but if it does
happen in IMC it can really ruin your day, so I'm thinking about a
backup plan. Obviously a portable GPS and Comm unit are first on the
priority...

Lost comm procedures by
Ron Garret
A couple of related questions. You'll want to get your southern
California approach plates out to follow this.
1. The preferred tower-enroute IFR routing from VNY to SNA ends at SLI,
but SLI is not an IAF for any approach into SNA. What should you do if
you lose comm before ATC starts to vector...

Is XM weather worthwhile? by
Ron Garret
My SR22 partners want to install XM weather to the tune of about $10k.
I'm not convinced it's worthwhile. The plane is based in Southern
California where we don't tend to get the kind of squirrelly weather
they get east of the Mississippi. In the summer we'll get isolated
thunderstorms over the...
