Oshkosh rumor about camping by Jim Gardiner
Reliability on this, is at best fair to unsubstantiated..... The rumor is as follows: Antique/classic/vintage/the guys south of the Communication Tower are not letting any homebuilts camp in their camping area due to the fact Homebuilts has a new camping area off the end of Papa 1. Fact: there...

Experimentals and flight training by Chris Wells
I'm building a Hummelbird, and I was hoping to use it towards my private pilot's license, but I've heard that I can't use an experimental for flight training. I looked through my FARAIM '97 and I can't find anything to verify that. Has anything changed regarding this since then? Can someone point...

source for aluminum tubing with rounded corners? by Kyler Laird
I've been ordering a bunch of round tubing from Aircraft Spruce but the only square tubing they advertise has sharp corners. I need some 1" square tubing with rounded corners. The specs. are not critical beyond that; I'll try to work with what's available. Any pointers? Thank you.

FA EBAY: Evans Volksplane VP1 ( You won't find a nicer VP1) by JR
There seems to be some jealousy and bitter bigots trying to bad mouth this plane its ebay listing in addition to defaming me. This plane is priced to sell and built professionally and has hundreds of hour flown off of it safely. I refuse to have dialouge with any of these Keyboard Rangers...

Drilling holes in steel tubing by wright1902glider
Hello everyone, I'm back in the shop again with a new problem. That is, how to drill accurate holes on-center through steel tubing. I need to attach 2 short lengths of 1/2" EMT tubing parallel to the top tube of a bicycle frame, one on each side. The EMT tubes will extend about 20" forward of...

Heading Hold Gyro. by brian whatcott
I expect, like me, you thought you knew what heading hold gyros were all about? If you haven't been around model helicopter enthusiasts lately, you have no idea! Try googling 'heading hold gyro'. It turns out, that radio control modelers stick a heading hold gyro on their model helicopter and...

Mil-Spec and Mil-Spec kit? by Michael Horowitz
I'd like to read MIL-SPEC TT-P-1757, which talks about zinc chromate. GOOGLING for it, I see offers to /sell/ the document. Shouldn't that spec be available on-line somewhere? Second, I see offers for "Mil-Spec TT-P-1757 kit". What would the 'kit' consist of? - Mike

automotive parts on airplane engines by Wallace Berry
Automotive alternators are sometimes installed on certified airplanes. Are automotive (or any other type) starters ever used on a certified engine. For instance, is there a Delco automotive equivalent to the starter on a C85? Thanks, Wallace

bell xp-77-info? by J. Paaso
whilst taking a break from my main project (http://www.dlc.fi/~jmpaaso/experimental/), I stumbled upon the concept of Bell xp-77. Being all wooden, it appealed to me and now I would like to hear anything and everything concerning this aircraft. Are there any existing drawings ? anywhere, anyone?...

Small turbines for homebuilts? by David Findlay
Has there been any development of small jet engines for light aircraft, like the engines used on the Eclipse 500? Small turbines would be great for high performance homebuilts if they were cheap enough. Anything down to the price level that could compete with high horsepower Lycoming's...

Flying to Fields near OSH by Rob McDonald
I unexpectedly have the opportunity to fly to Airventure for a few days. A friend who has done this before has recommended that I fly to a field near OSH rather than right in to Wittman Regional. I will be flying around the north end of Lake Michigan. Do you have any recommendations for which...

Looking for a sub-100hp engine with long TBO time. by tffy
This is for a hypothetical ultralight design, so just looking for suggestions here of where to look at... hopefully a 4-stroke, purchase price doesn't matter much, certification status doesn't matter either. Long time before overhaul matters A LOT... so, the longer the better. Is there anything out...

Sport Pilot inconsistency by frustrated flier
I am unclear on two Sport Pilot issues: First, a new pilot may qualify for a Sport Pilot ticket even though he or she takes a medication that would preclude a 3rd class medical. However, an experienced pilot with a higher ticket may not operate as a Sport Pilot if he lost a medical last year for...
