First the AI, then the DG, then...? by
Jay Honeck
A couple of months ago our AI, which had been "coming and going", finally
went. We replaced it with a rebuilt unit from "The Gyro House", which had
the dual effect of getting our autopilot working properly again.
Last month, our DG failed completely and suddenly, after a normal landing in
Pella,...

Different plane, same fix by
Jay Honeck
When we flew our '75 Warrior, it developed a problem with the
alternator going off-line in flight. This was preceeded by the
ammeter needle bouncing crazily and finally pegging at 60 amps.
I fixed that problem by spending an hour tracing all the electrical
lines, and tightening connections. The...

Headset Noise by
Jonathan Goodish
I have a Sigtronics SPA-400 intercom in my Cherokee. Everything works
fine, except that the right seat position has an annoying amount of
electrical noise in the headset. It is a high-pitch whine (alternator
noise), and the pitch seems to follow RPM. This is not noticable in the
pilot's headset,...

Sticking Lycoming O-360 valve again? by
[email protected]
Hey all. Question about my Cherokee's O-360. When we first got it about 3.5
years ago, it was very low hours SOH, but almost 10 years. We had some sticking
valves and bad oil consumption, so sent the jugs out to have the IRAN. At that time,
in addition to the the IRAN, a few rusted valve...

A title problem, but I want to buy. How handle? by
Michael Horowitz
I located a plane I'd like to buy; unfortunately somewhere along the
way the FAA didn't get some paperwork and the current owner didn't get
clear title.
Is there anything I can do to 'buy' the a/c and start working on it,
or do I have to sit on my hands? - Mike

2 seaters by
Marco Rispoli
In my quest to purchase an aircraft I came to the conclusion that a 2 seater
could fit my mission parameters AND my budget.
I can afford:
Beech Skipper (goes between 25-35 grands age around 20+)
Mooney M10 (same as the skipper ... but it's older age around 30+)
Piper Tomahawk (same as the...

Scientific Data on Engine Operations by
O. Sami Saydjari
This is actually a split off from the "Rotating Injectors Among
Cylinders" thread. I prefer not to distract that thread any.
I must say that I find the evidence presented in support on LOP to be
uncompelling. Although it is certainly appealing at the gut level, it
is a far cry from scientific...

Oil leak on top of the engine by
Jay Honeck
It seems to be the season for finding oil leaks.
At our completely uneventful annual (just finished two days ago) I asked my
shop to investigate a new leak that I had detected when I de-cowled the
engine for the inspection. All across the top of our 3-year-old, 500-hour
engine, down the seam...

Decision time by
nobody
Our partnership decided to sell our '77 Warrior II while it still had about
400 hrs left before TBO. That was a year ago. There is about 200 hrs left
now. Vref shows about 48K and we've dropped the price to 42K. She needs
paint and is right at TBO. She still runs strong and burns about 1qt of...

Value of a knot by
Dude
I got an idea from a recent thread.
I would like to know what you guys would spend to go a little faster. This
would seem to be interesting information, and a fun topic.
Please note the present speed of your plane, because 5 knots means a lot
more at 100 than 200.
Personally, It seems to me that...

First flight in our "new" Ercoupe... by
Jay Honeck[_2_]
A few months ago a group of us "pilots with kids" realized that our
pilot-rated children could no longer afford to fly even the clapped-out
rental 150s at our local FBO. Over a few beers, we started plotting a way to
help.
All of us were already aircraft owners -- but we all owned...

Texas Taildraggers by
K. Ari Krupnikov
I'm looking to buy one. They are around, but the market is small
enough tat determining market value is difficult. Compared to a
similarly equipped, same-year unmodified 150, what should the price
difference be?
Ari.

Removing old antennas by
Jay Honeck
Is it worth the bother?
We're coming up on our annual inspection in May, and there are at least four
antennas on our bird that do nothing. I'll bet there's a few feet of cable
going to each one, too.
Does removing an antenna net you any extra speed, or is it mainly a weight
reduction...

Surecheck TrafficScope Pirep? by
Marco Leon
I cancelled my previous order for their TPAS 100 after I heard the terrible
reviews from the newsgroups and some aviation publications. Through a Google
search I was only able to find one guy's review which was
positive.
Anyone care to share what they heard or experienced with the...
