Armed forces of an independent Scotland by phil hunt
There's recently been speculation in the media that UK defence cuts ewill result in some or all of Scotland's infantry regiments being disbanded. If Scotland became an independent state, what sort of armed forces should it have -- if you were appointed Scottish minister of defence, what would you...

Future military fighters and guns - yes or no ? by championsleeper
Hi, I'm interested in canvassing opinions regarding the inclusion of a gun on future military aircraft. If you listen to some of the blurb out there (government, aircraft manufacturers, hollywood) it would appear that its all going to be BVR (beyond visual range) type stuff with no need for a gun....

The nature of military justice. by ArtKramr
Many experts in military law consider the term military justice a contradiction in terms. For example, you are charged with a crime by the military. The judge is military, The prosecuting attourney is military, your defense attourney is military and the entire jury is military. There is no...

Carrier Islands by Thomas W Ping
Are there aviation-related reasons why the starboard side is favored for the island, or is it a purely naval issue? If the latter, did the practice come about because the first pioneering carriers were arbitrarily drawn up that way and the configuration simply stuck as a matter of tradition, or...

Russian Military Technology by BUFDRVR
The best the Russians can do is hope for a chance hit on a helicopter with an RPG. But you have to give them credit for that one....although its surface-to-air capability was not part of the design and not discovered by the Russians....maybe they don't deserve any credit. Maybe this is the key...

Using ship fuel as aviation fuel? by KDR
If necessary, is it possible to use F-76 as aviation fuel? I've read somewhere that the RN's Invincible class carrier can trade off her endurance for embarked air group's endurance by using ship fuel tanks as 'swing tanks'. Can anyone confirm this one way or the other? Thanks in advance

Legality of owning ex-military intercontinental aircraft. by Bill Silvey
Hiya group. I can't recall if I've asked this before, but does anyone know what the legal status of a privately purchased airframe like, say, a B47 or B36 (or, heaven forbid, a B52 or Tu-95) would be presuming the owner could refurbish the aircraft to operational capability? I think at least the...
