Is a "yellow-tag" really necessary? by
joe mamma
No technician in his right mind would put a part in an airplane that
does not have traceablity. yes you Do need a yellow serviceable tag.
Or better yet an 8130.
It amazes me what some of you owners do on your airplanes.....You
cannot legally install that if you dont have an A&P.

Insurance by
Ross Richardson
I used to be insured by AIG in Bethany, OK. During my last renewal I
found out that Travers and Associates of St. Louis, MO has bought them.
If you call AIG you get Travers. Even though I paid my premium I have
not received notification of coverage or a copy of the policy. No change
in cost. AIG...

EGT temps on 0300D by
tony roberts
Hi
I had to pull cylinder 3 due to low compression.
The shop said that there is some minute pitting on the valve which
indicates that the EGT is too hot.
I use an engine analyzer and run 50 rich of peak for leanest cylinder.
This puts CHT's between 300 & 350 and EGT's between 1350 and 1450.
I...

GPSMAP 195/196 vs. Lowrance AIPMAP 1000 by
John Clonts
Hello Mike,
FYI I the later Garmins (I believe that includes the 196) will record flight
tracks with Altitude, the Lowrance 500 and 1000 will not.
I find the 3D track very useful for:
1) Aesthetic dimension for plots of our flights to give to friends that
we've given rides to. E.g. if you use...

WTB: rivnut keyway notcher by
scott
Hi,
I am looking for a notcher that will cut keyway notches for a #6 rivnut
with a key. I have tried every tool store online that I can find. No one
seems to have them. I was outbid on a couple of used ones on Ebay and
haven't seen any since the last time. Any help would be appreciated.

Is a "yellow-tag" really necessary? by
Andre
Ok, let's say my TSO'd Attitude Indicator (AI) in my Cherokee goes
belly-up, and my friend just happens to have one he removed from his
machine a month ago as part of a complete panel upgrade. We both KNOW
the thing works fine and would solve my problem.
What's the ramifications of just having it...

Corrosion on oil dipstick. Bad? by
Ben Jackson
I've got an IO-540. The oil filler neck is a long tube sticking up out
of the top of the case with a dipstick that's 15" or so. The top end
of the dipstick never even gets splashed with oil in normal operation.
That part of the dipstick is mildly corroded. I'm assuming it sits in
a steamy...

Mogas: what happens to EGTs? by

This was a little fun quiz that was circulated on a type specific

Advanced Pilot Seminars, and principle of GAMI. If you're familiar
with George, you know he backs everything up with HARD DATA obtained
from his own research. In a...

ARRRRGHH!
Just took possession of a '67 172 on Monday. Aside from work obligations and
IFR weather in the DFW area the past week, I was really really really
looking forward to this morning (Sat) to take my first flight alone in the
new bird.
Going over the logs once again last night (about the...

Hickory NC Airport Flight Pattern by
HBYardSale
I'm looking at a house that is about 1 mile north of the airport -- right in
the flight path of the north-south runway.
I would like to find out how many planes a day fly in/out of the airport and
typically how many of these use the N-S runway.
Any help or a referral would be greatly appreciated.

Strobe Recommendations??? by

I know this subject has been covered in the rec.aviation.* ngs in the last
couple of years, but my dejasearch turned up dry.
I'm putting wingtip strobes on the 182 and I'd like recommendations from the
group as to what you put on and why. I'd like individual power supplies for
each strobe mounted...

Remember the 63, 172 that sat outside for 18 years? Well the restoration
is done except for the paint, the white is done but not the stripe. Test
flight was Feb 29th. The pictures are still at http://12.151.5.4/172 but I
haven't put up the newest ones yet. It was actually done since late
December,...

KT-76A frequency by
Ray Godwin
I just had a VFR Cert. done and the avionics shop said that the antenna
of coax was causting the frequency of the transponder to be out of
limits. Of coarse they had to bench adjust the frequency of the
transponder to compensate. Has anyone ever had this problem before?
Thanks,
Ray
