Chicago area from the southwest - advice? by
Chad Speer
We're visiting friends who live in downtown Chicago next weekend and
I'm considering a few airports for our visit. Aside from lamenting
about the murder of Meigs (which would have been perfect, of course) or
suggesting a boycott, can anyone offer suggestions as to the best field
and FBO for the...

Chief Counsel rulings.... by
[email protected]
Anyone know where to view ruling by the FAA's chief counsel? In
particular, I'm looking for the one that that states "departure
procedures" referred to in Far 91.129(g) are only those traffic
pattern departure routes that the FAA sometimes establishes for a
particular airport. As opposed to say...

Circle to Land @ KRBG by
Al
At our home field, KRBG, Roseburg, Oregon, we use left traffic for both ends
of our RWY 34-16. The approach procedures cite "Circling east of the rwy
34-16 centerline not authorized". What do I do when I break out, and have
to "circle west of the centerline for RWY 16", while VFR traffic is...

Circle to land question by
A Lieberman
Last week, I was doing approaches in actual IMC, and returning back to MBO
(Madison, MS), I broke out right at minimum ceilings 4.8 miles DME from the
JAN VOR. Ceilings were just above 900 feet. Missed minimums are 5 DME an
900 feet ceilings (NOTAM raised it from 860 to 900).
The approach takes...

Circling To Land On NDB-B and NDB-C by
S. Ramirez
I am new to this group, because I recently went through an IFR course.
I do have a question. There is an airport close to here called Orlando
Sanford (SFB). It has two approaches called NDB-B and NDB-C. Both are
similar but they approach the airport from west and east, respectively.
Let's...

Cirrus chute deployment -- an incredible story by

I received this story from a friend. The author I suppose wrote these

them on the internet.I would be interested in your reactions.

Clarification of the KMTV GPS-30/LOC-30 Approaches?? by
Icebound
A couple of clarifications, please, for the IFR-challenged...
1. Is there a good reason for the holding point for the GPS approach to 30,
to be back 11.8 miles back from the holding point for the LOC approach?
They have established UBWAY right at the marker, so why do they not let the
GPS...

Class B bust my fault or the controllers ? by
Antoņio
Today I flew into KBFI (Boeing field) which is class D and has
extentions that underlie the Class B that require close attention to
altitudes and headings so as to stay clear. Today the winds were
favoring 31L (and 31R) and I came in from the west on the Vashon
approach--the most common approach...

Clear to intercept localizer by
[email protected]
I want out to play last week. I requested clearance from EMT to RAL
for ILS to rwy 9. Shortly after I was level at 4000, I was cleared to
intercept localizer. As I tracked localizer, the glideslope started
down and I started down with it. At 3,700, ATC called to ask me to
remain 4000. I...

clearance delivery question by
PaulH
If I file an IFR flight plan 2 hours in advance from departure from a
towered airport and then leave really early or really late:
1. Is the FP normally available to my local tower about half an hour
after filing?
2. How long does it remain in the "system" if I get delayed?

Clearance with an Odd Intersection by
Marco Leon
Has anyone received a route clearance that included an intersection that was
only on an approach chart and not in an Enroute Chart?
Flew IFR from FRG to GON with the following clearance: Farmingdale Three,
radar vectors BDR, direct MAD, MAD 126 radial to MONDI, direct.
For the life of me I couldn't...

Clearance: Direct to airport with /U by
Judah
The other day I was flying to 3N6 in NJ from JST in PA in a plane with two
VORs and a VFR-only GPS. About halfway through I got an ammended clearance
giving me a shortcut. The last point in the clearance was ARD then Direct
3N6.
After accepting the clearance, and turning toward the next waypoint,...

Clearances for Practice by
Jerry Kaidor
Hello,
Anybody know where there are some recordings of IFR clearances for
practice? If not, I shall have to gather my own - at my home airport,
they only seem to occur when I don't want them - like when I'm
impatiently waiting to taxi out :).
Oh well, my house is up a hill, I should be able to...

Cleared for an approach, then given a different altitude assignment by
Peter R.
Today I was practicing a GPS approach and had been cleared for the
approach with the normal, "Cessna XXX, cross ELESE at 3,000, cleared
GPS 15 approach."
A minute or so later the controllers switched positions and another one
took over that slice of airspace.
The new one came on frequency and...

Cleared for the ILS 16 or circle to land 34 question? by

Was out doing approaches this morning to knock off the rust.

rules.

Cleared for the ILS 16 approach or circle to land 34 Hawkins.

Clearence available upon request by

This one kinda stumps me everytime I am told this.
Call tower, request your IFR clearence, they tell you "taxi to runway
xxx - clearence available upon request"
what I always do is just read back the taxi instructions and wait for
them to call me back with the clearence. I guess I dont understand...

Close call with engine failure in IMC by
G. Sylvester
I'm close to finishing my IFR. I did most of my training at night
but didn't get much IMC. Two out of the past 3 flights were in solid
IMC. Fortunately the night training was pretty good and I've
become somewhat comfortable quickly after the past 4 hours of IMC or so.
The plan was to do my...

Closest SDF, LDA and LOC-BC Approaches by
Andrew Sarangan
Is there a search tool I could use to find the closest SDF, LDA and LOC-BC
approaches? With airnav I can only search for precision or nonprecision
approaches. I am looking for examples of the other less common approaches
that are nearby without having to sift through every page of the approach
book.
