tail rotor rotation direction by
Stuart & Kathryn Fields
Just attended a fly-in at Westport OK. There were some 27 helicopters
there. Attending were Rotorways, a Brantly, some R-22s, a R-44,
Schweitzers, a Hiller and a Safari. Only one of these ships had the tail
rotor turning in the "right" direction. It as the Safari. It seems that
Bell,...

How do I find a Bell 47... by
Mike
....to get a little stick time? I'm a newbie (about 180 hours split
between the 300C and the R22) and I would dearly like to buy a
helicopter. No justification at all -- just a huge fascination with
helicopters. I think my short list includes a Robinson or a Bell 47.
But I've never flown a Bell and...

Have you flown "on top"? by
B4RT
I'm just curious how many of you have flown on top? Either way, why or why
not?
I have. but didn't like doing it. It was to avoid flying too low among the
blue ridge mountains when there were low layers hanging in the valleys. (I
had a Garmin 396 with XMWx so from the sat/radar view I knew what...

spin balancing a tail rotor by
Stuart & Kathryn Fields
We recently received an article for our magazine where the author performed
a balance of his tail rotor on a bench using an electric motor and a dial
indicator instead of an electronic balancer. I was impressed with his
thinking outside the box. If there is any interest in this out there, I...

Dennis Fetters Rumour by
Kevin O'Brien
There's a rumour going around that Dennis Fetters perished in a Brantly
crash in Argentina in July.
For a rumour, that's very specific, and I'm going to check it out in
Argentina. But it seems to me that it's pretty farfetched for several
reasons. Seems like this group might be a place to...

JohnO
Surprisingly, according to the NZ CAA Register, there are more R22
Betas registered than any other aircraft type fixed or rotary wing. and
R44 Raven II comes in 3rd!

OT for Kevin or anyone by
boB
Hey Kevin. You know a bunch about the simulators on the market today. I
may not be able to fly again for real so a simulator could help to fill
in the time. Can you lead me to some affordable simulators available,
especially for helicopter simulators. Affordable means a couple
thousand or...

Stuck Collective by

I remember reading an article discussing how there were emergencies
that most emergency procedures don't cover because they are
statistically improbable of happening. This article specifically
discussed flying along at cruise and discovering that your collective
could not be lowered beyond your...

Landing a C5 Galaxy in Central Park by
[email protected]
Working on a movie script idea about the 911 attack on the WTC where
the crew of a blackop C5 Galaxy loaded with two SS Chinooks at Fort Dix
decide to take matters into their own hands when they receive a strange
radio message indicating that the World Trade Center has been attacked
and that...

TFR not right IMO by
Bart
I was getting ready to go today and noticed that there were two
new TFR's for me to avoid. One of them closed a regional airport,
and the other a few miles away to the northwest. I saw the words
"Secret Service" and figured #1 or #2 was gonna be in town.
I did a news search and found out that the...

Looking for information regarding baloon/helicopter experiment by
wavy
I know the video was not fake, but I have no information about it.
I believe I recorded it from a compilation of aircraft accidents but
it was from 20 years ago.
I unfortunately dont have the tape anymore.
The vehicle, I believe - was put together by some contractor for the
forestry service.
It...

Homebuilt/Kitbuilt by
doylex
Keep reading about problems with kit versions. Anyone know what the
ultimate kitbuilt copter would be if you wanted to carry 2 persons and
1 kid and not spend $344,000 for a Robinson?

Any CFI insurance 300h ? by
Steve L.
Hi,
we have a problem here. For a small R22 school we need a new CFI. The
CFII we want, however, has only 202h in R22 (another 250h in small
planes).
Our Pathfinder endorsement requires 300h helicopter for CFIs to give
instruction!
Does anyone here know of a possibility to let this CFI get his...
