Raise your useful load without an STC... by
Hilton
1. Go on a diet
2. Define a gallon of 100LL as weighing 5.82 lbs instead of the usual 6
lbs - Mooney did it.
Is this legal/valid? If so, why don't all manufacturers do it?

Alaska Senator Supports User Fees For All EXCEPT Alaska Pilots by
Larry Dighera
How do these arrogant, self-serving, simpleminded politicians manage
to get elected? Doesn't Senator Stevens realize that his token
exemption will be overturned as soon as the bill is enacted? Doesn't
he realize that he has become the first evidence of the user fee
proponents' divide and conquer...

Closing a Cirrus door in flight -- it can be done by
Anonymous coward #673
I managed to close the door of an SR22 after it popped open in flight
without landing. The trick is to slow to 90 knots and then give the
door handle a good yank. It worked for me.
Just in case anyone was wondering.

Why fly to OSH? by
Dan Luke[_2_]
After all, there are plenty of reasons not to:
1) Congested skies
2) Stressful arrival
3) Camping discomforts
4) Avgas prices
5) Giant arachnids
6) etc.
1) Well, don't you enjoy looking at other airplanes in flight? You'll see

OSH '07 Redux -- Part I, The Arrival by
Jay Honeck
Oshkosh 2007 Redux
Having just enjoyed a beautiful, uneventful flight home last evening,
I'm sitting in the afterglow of Oshkosh 2007 with my cup of coffee,
wondering how it could have gone by so quickly.
The week went by in a flash of noise and spectacle, with quiet
mornings spent near Atlas'...

OSH '07 Redux -- Part III -- The People & the Party by
Jay Honeck
The People and the Party
Having flown in together, we camped with a great group of folks, many
from the rec.aviation groups, as well as the Cherokee Chat. The
daily ritual soon settled into a pattern, with some of us eating a big
breakfast off-field at either LeSeur's or the Hilton, skipping...

Cirrus in LSA as of this morning. But not with a new design by
Gig 601XL Builder
Cirrus Design is entering the LSA market. At 9:30 this morning they
unveiled, appropriately hidden beneath a parachute, their Cirrus SRS. The
aircraft will be produced in conjunction with Fk Lightplanes based in
Speyer, Germany, with production facilities in Poland. The aircraft is a
low-wing...

Biggest bonehead moves flying into OSH? by
Viperdoc[_4_]
Two days ago, while returning from the east coast on a business trip, I
heard an exchange between a plane going to OSH and the controllers in
Michigan. We were at 10,000 in an out of IMC and doing a large deviation to
avoid a line of thunderstorms.
The pilot going to OSH asked for an IFR...

Any compound radials still flying? by
Paul kgyy
One of the best things about Oshkosh is the sound of those big radial
engines. Does anyone know if any of the 18-cylinder compound radials
is still flying, and if so, where? If there was one at Osh, where was
it?

We still need FSS by
john smith[_2_]
Some have posted here that we no longer need FSS and all the bungling
associated with the Loc-KMart transition. I disagree.
While DUAT/DUATS, AWOS/ASOS and aviationweather.gov provide excellent
graphics, text and aural reports, we still need trained, live briefers
to interpret the local...

Questions for OSH Volunteers by
Jay Honeck
Here are a few questions about OSH that I have not been able to
answer:
1. Do they close the airspace tonight (Sunday, last day of show), or
does the airport revert to 24 hour operation?
2. How long can you camp in the North 40? What if you simply
*stay*? How long until someone comes out and...

Landing in KFRG by
Steve Foley[_2_]
I may be flying into Republic airport to pick up a gift.
It looks like there's a landing fee as well as a ramp fee. With luck it will
be a ten minute stop. Any recommendations?

How to promote this thing we do (long post) by
Jeff[_1_]
I'm a 10 year lurker in this newsgroup and, like most, time gets in the way
of my flying and/or posting here. But after a week at OSH (missed the party
AGAIN, but this time, I didn't wander around not finding it :) ) and a newly
re-instated medical, I've been invigorated and am ready again to...

VOR approach SMO by
Robert M. Gary
The other day I shot the VOR approach into SMO for the first time in
low actual. I've often looked at that approach as one of the most
difficult I've seen published so it was interesting to actually try
it. The weather was 008OVC with something like 3sm HZ. I touched down
about 3/4 down the runway...

Aurora, Oregon Airport Info Needed by

I'm going to park my airplane for a night or two at the Aurora, Oregon
airport (UAO) in a couple of weeks. I've only been there once before and
parked for a few hours in front of the Willamette Aviation FBO. They were
super friendly but didn't have a place to tie down; I rolled it off the...
