US Airspace and Airport Data Update by
2KA
Yesterday I noticed that someone was having trouble running a NASR
database query on my website centered on Palo Alto, using a .CUP
turnpoint file from Hollister. The problems had to do with some
unexpected slight irregularities in the uploaded .CUP file. Today I
made my website a little more...

Parowan Sports Class Nationals Weather by
Mike the Strike
Just a heads up for any pilots heading to the US Sports Class
Nationals in southern Utah next week.
The upcoming weekend weather looks likely to be pretty showery with a
good chance of thunderstorms over the mountains - not usually a good
sign for great soaring from Parowan. The good news is that...

photo landing on SeeYou 3.95 by
Frank[_12_]
I flew a TAT today at the Cordele, Ga USA contest, and as I always do
I opened my flight in SeeYou 3.95 for analysis. Except this time it
showed a 'photo landing' between the 2nd and 3rd turn areas, and there
seems to be no way to get rid of it. I have been using SeeYou for at
least 8 years, and...

A friend has to go after 10 years by
kd6veb
Hi Gang
After 10 years of good soaring in my Stemme S10-VT I have finally
decided to sell her. What were the highlights? Well I think the
longest and most difficult flight was a return soar from Parowan to
Minden with a 25 knot headwind in near blue sky conditions - I got as
low as 2,000 feet agi...

Local newspaper article by
lanebush
My local newspaper ran the following article about soaring.
http://www.millercountyliberal.com/news/2010-05-12/Community/Flying_without_an_engine_is_fun_and_challenging.html
The article is a little disjointed when viewing online but it read
very well in the newspaper. It held the prominent...

physics question about pull ups by
John Rivers
I was trying to work out the expected height gain from a pull up
Experienced glider pilots say you will get a better pull up with a
heavier glider / water etc.
But I can't see this from my (probably incomplete) equations:
total energy = potential energy + kinetic energy
total energy before pull...

Anyone have a Tost release? by
noel.wade
All -
My DG-300's CG hook needs replacement (Tost p/n 028500, a right-hand
side-mount, a "G-88" I believe). Unfortunately I've been told that
there are none in-stock in the USA, and shipping from Germany is going
to take several weeks. I have a contest coming up in just a couple of
weeks, so...

It's been awhile since I've been in contact with most of the glider

Use of 1201 Transponder Squawk for Salt Lake City TRACON by
Dan Thirkill
For pilots flying within the SLC area, use of the 1201 'glider' transponder
sqauwk is now implemented.
Update received from TRACON personnel confirms hardware and software system
configurations now permit recognition of the unique code.
Enjoy-
