Little friend takes big brother home. by ArtKramr
The recent thread on "most beautiful things" has brought back many memories. We were flying a maximum effort (56 Marauders) heading East into Germany We were in the number two slot in the high flight flying deputy lead. Way in the distance I saw a tiny spot coming toward us As it came closer I saw...

Development of British cannon ammuniation during WW2 by Jukka O. Kauppinen
What was the timetable for British development for their 20 mm cannon ammuniation during WW2? I'm aware that RAF tried to install first cannons to Spit Is but this was initially a failure. Early Spit V models were introduced with 60 round supply to the Hispanos, later with 120 rounds per gun. Some...

WWII Aircraft still useful by Charles Talleyrand
Suppose someone was willing to give a modern air force a bunch of planes from WWII. The Luftwaffe can have several hundred Fw-190s. The US can have a pile of Catalina's (or DC-3s). The British can have as many Mosquitoes as they want. Are there any WWII aircraft that could still be useful in a...

NAZI Oil Post Error by robert arndt
During the war Germany operated 16 Coal Gasification Plants that produced synthetic fuel. 85% of German aviation ran off synthetics, as did much of the German war machine in general. The SS Scientific Branch further developed coal-burning powerplants as well as exploring grain alcohol fuels,...

B-24 Liberator by [email protected]
I have been doing some research and was amazed at the B-24's accident rate. From April 10, 1944 to August 31,1944, the Replacement Training Unit at Chatham AAF, Savannah, Georgia had 23 accidents. In those accidents, nine of the B-24s were destroyed and there were 54 deaths. The Navy had...
