NY Times OPEd article on Tanker Leasing by
John Bailey
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/10/28/opinion/28BROO.html
(quoting)
U.S. Air Force would lease 100 refueling tankers, modified Boeing
767's, from an entity controlled by the Boeing Corporation.
This whole mess started because the Air Force can't pay for new
tankers up front, so it tried to push back...

Power on the flareout. by
ArtKramr
The B-26 Martin Marauder needed power poured on to execute the flareout. If
that was not done, the aicraft would not pull up and just plow into the ground.

Swing Wings: Yea or Neah? by
BOB URZ
Why have most newer fighter designs not used swing wings?
It seems in the US, the F14 and F111 were the last to go with
swing wings. It seems the major reasons for using them is having the
best of both worlds in wing loading at both low and high speeds.
Why have the newer designs avoided them?...

Original F-117 Sketch by

the "Hopeless Diamond" version:
http://www.f-117a.com/images/XST/hdiamond1.gif
Looks much different from the designs the Germans came up with for
their MBB Lampyridae (Firefly)... independently, of course. The German
design was much better at radar defraction and was from the onset
designed as an...

STRAFING AS IF IN A DREAM by
ArtKramr
Strafing as if in a Dream
It was a rare mission for us. Marauders were never meant to be thrown around at
low level at high speed. And this was a low-level mission. We were to bomb a
military target in a small city. Then we were to go down on the deck and
strafe. It was the first strafing mission...

Suitability of Proven Technologies for Defending Against Airborne Terrorism by
Yossarian
I'm curious why barrage balloon techniques aren't being utilized to
protect against terror attacks from the air. A well-engineered
network of modern balloons should improve the likelihood of diverting
all but the largest commercial aircraft from U.S. point targets vice
an Avenger salvo, and...

A-Bomb, Justified .?! by
Legal Tender
I see we have that old problem again about if "it" should have been used or
not..
Well I did some research. I checked over the wanted adds in papers from Ca
to Wa for Oct and Nov 1941.
I did not see any adds from America asking another country to attack us.
Ok we got that out of the way,
We did...

P-39 by
Bob M.
I have read that the usefulness of the Bell P-39 was greatly decreased
by certain decisions made by the USAAF before it went into production
in the 1930s. Chief among these was the deletion of the
turbosupercharger, but the shortening of the wings also had an effect.
The question is, just how much...

Lockheed Lancer? by
Brendan Grace
Does anyone have any links or info on the Lockheed effort back in the 70s
for competition with the YF-16 and YF-17? It was
a derivative of the F-104 but I don't know what happened to the program or
even if a mock up was built.

*White* Helicopters??!!! by

Russian *White* helicopters, the analog to our ubiquitous,

Russian (??) scientists at an Antarctic station. I think
the ice had broken loose from the continent.
Some video of the rescue showed...
