How does R&D $$$ get assigned between F-22 and F-35? by Alan Minyard
On Tue, 06 Jan 2004 13:06:28 -0800, Hobo wrote: The F-22 and the F-35 are similar planes that share at least the engine and maybe more. How do the R&D costs get divided between the two programs? If the F-22 gets killed, will its R&D get moved over to the F-35 and...

How many JSOWs does an F15E-229 carry? by Tetsuji Rai
Title says it all. I'm playing a flight sim, Falcon4. Recently a new version was out. In the previous version, F15E can carry up to 8 JSOWs (AGM154a), however in the new version it can carry only 2 JSOWs. Which is correct? It is a big problem to me as an F15E fan. Thanks in advance.

Stealthy air to air missile? by Henry J Cobb
With a stealthy fighter you could make an attack on another aircraft without alerting them, except for the IR signature of the missile's rocket or ramjet engine. Is anybody planning a stealth AAM that uses a turbojet? -HJC

ID question: hornet or super-hornet? by Jim Battista
Seeing a couple fly over one at a time this weekend leads me to ask: Is there any easy way to tell a plain-old Hornet from a Super-hornet if it's alone in the sky? I know the E/F's are bigger, but, that ain't much help without the other one next to it. Is this one where you just have to really...

Phased array radars by B2431
I have seen phased array aircraft radars that look as if they still mechanically sweep the dish. I thought the entire reason for phased arrays was so they wouldn't need to mechanically move. I know how phased arrays work in principle, but that's as far as I go. What am I missing here? Dan, U.S....

Republican Party Dirty Tricks by WalterM140
Oh, yes. There is a Republican party dirty tricks apparatus: "Donald H. Segretti (born September 17, 1941) was a political operative for the Nixon White House during the 1970s. Segretti ran a campaign of dirty tricks against the Democrats. His actions were part of the larger Watergate Scandal. He...

Breaking News - 9/11 Flight Confrimed by John A. Weeks III
Since days after 9/11, there has been a story floating around about a flight that carried a group of Saudi natives out of the US on 9/13/2001 while all air traffic was supposedly shut down. The Bush white house has denied that this flight had taken place. The FBI and FAA still maintain that this...

Modern aces by Jukka O. Kauppinen
Associate asked interesting question. Is there any kind of listing of "modern" jet aces? And are any of those in service today? I'd guess best bet are the Israelis. Elsewhere some are from Vietnam (US, Vietnam, Russian?) and what else? There was air to air fighting at Eritrean-Etiopian war but...

Remote controled weapons in WWII by Charles Gray
Numerous bombers and heavy fighters, especially thowse that entered service post 1943 have reference to remote controlled weapons. Now, the remote control part should be fairly easy, but how were they aimed? I'm assuming that you linked the gunners controls in such a way thatthe gun always fired...

"What if" questions regarding TSR.2, Avro Arrow by M. Santoro
I'm toying with a few alt history ideas regarding the late 1960s and early 1970s...specifically UK and Commonwealth involvement in a massive anti-guerilla/counterinsurgency campaign in North America. Given that, if the TSR.2 and the Avro Arrow had been built and entered series production, what kind...
