A Letter from my co-pilots niece by ArtKramr
This letter came this morning. It makes having a website worthwhile. Dear Art, My name is Cheryl (Monson) Guthrie, Bob's niece. Firstly, I can barely contain myself as I am overwhelmed with emotion finding and reading your website. After he passed away, the War pictures and treasures were found,...

HENRY V We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition: And gentlemen in England now a-bed Shall think themselves accursed they were not here, And hold their manhoods cheap whiles...

request for ideas on decoding jet jock slang by Jeff Crowell
Hi, guys. An acquaintance has asked me to help decode a bit of Navy pilot jargon his daughter heard at a Poli Sci lecture. The prof is a former Tomcat pilot, and was apparently regaling the class with Tomcat tales. He used the acronym "SBFAFP" (spelled out, not spoken as a word as Navy types are...

Soviet Escort of American Bombers??? by Stephen Harding
Was looking at a reference page for the Yak-9 where it mentioned a model Yak-9DD which had extra fuel tanks installed for a range of up to just under 1400 miles. The stated purpose was for the escort of American bombers attacking Romanian oil fields. While the many raids against Ploesti are well...

Fighter takeoff rotation by Boomer
I see that F-15 is limited to about 12º rotation on takeoff to avoid scraping the tail or weapons. Is this fairly typicle of modern fighters? Curiosity killed the cat, and I'm gonna find out why!

stand off missiles by [email protected]
The Air Staff in the UK were looking at standoff missiles in the late 50s/early 60s. These would have been turbojet or ramjet missiles. They were always objected to on the grounds of 'vulnerability'. Can anyone answer some questions? 1. A ramjet missile travelling Mach 2 to 3 at 70,000ft. (a)...

Another C-17 On The Way by John A. Weeks III

PZL 62 Aircraft Claim by robert arndt
http://www.miramex.com.pl/jwsoft/1939/image/pzl62_01.JPG A strange old Polish guy sent me a drawing of this basically unknown aircraft and claimed that it would have swept the skies of the German invaders if it were built. He further claimed it would have been superior to the Spitfire. What is...

I recently acquired a photo of a B-29 named "Georgia Peach." Does anyone know what is the little camels painted below the pilot's window on the B-29 signify? Obviously a mission accomplished, but from where and by what group? I notice on TV that one of the B-29s that wound up in Russia also had...

WW2 bombing by Bernardz
Say I dropped 1000 tones over a long period of time in a city in the region 50 square kilometers. Does anyone know of any tables or formulas that can tell me how effective in WW2 air bombing of a city would reasonably be? Also any information on the effect of over hitting would be appreciated.

World War Two Era U.S. Radial Engines (Curtiss and Pratt&Whitney) by Lincoln Brown
Okay, online flightsim question time. Did the Curtiss or P&W Radial engines rotate on a mount and spin the propellor like their WWI predecessors or were they fixed and drove a propellor shaft? I've seen WWI Era fighters with the engine exposed and the cylinders spin, but all the WWII aircraft the...
