fighter unit cost hypothetical question by
mr jones
the typical DOD acquisition process of fielding
a new fighter platform involves the bean counters
adding up per unit cost.
now we all know from basic economics theory, the
more quantity we produce, the efficiencies of mass
production kicks in, and unit cost should go down.
this might be an...

Unit Rosters: Collect them now or cry later
Many veterans who served in prior wars deeply regret that they failed
to collect the names and hometowns of the men and women they served
with. These contacts are invaluable in later years to substantiate
injuries, medal eligibility, historical...

Oilspill on aircraftcarriers by
Max Richter
The Navy used to have plenty of radial-pistonengined aircraft on

before it is started. Then the oil is queezed out in the exhaustsystem
and eventually on...

Revisiting the Super Hornet's canted pilons issue by
José Herculano

weapons separation issues that lead to the 4º cant / toe-out of the Super
Hornet's wing pilons. I'm not hearing too much complain from the Navy
either. The reasons that have me worried about this current solution a

Hornet down @ RDU, pilot OK by
John S. Shinal
F-18 lost power during takeoff at Raleigh NC's RDU airport,
and ended up in a burning pile beside runway 2L - pilot ejected OK,
apparently unhurt.
Hornet is still burning like hell, despite a huge amout of
foam, no injuries on the ground, and a few airliners have taken off
since the accident.

The Origin of "Aviator" by
Yofuri
Quoted from a totally non-credible source:
"This explains it all. As aviators, we come from a long line of a secret
society, formed around one thousand years ago. We are warriors, and
here is the proof! Ground pounders can read it and weep!
A little known fact is the origin of the word,...
