I made a last-minute decision to attend my first SSA convention and just managed to get my registration in time. I'm hoping to get there in time to catch Burt's session on Wednesday, but might have to drive over from Charlotte if the flights to GSP are full. AirBnB room pending a few blocks from...

Anyone know of a source for new l'hotellier fittings? I received an email from the son of an home builder in the Ukraine asking about a source for these fittings. He found my name from my web site where I described adding wederkind sleeves to l'hotellier fittings on a DG glider. One possible...

FAKE Letter from OLC - Weird by JohnDeRosa
I received overnight a "letter" from O.L.C- . The body of the email says, "Please see the enclosed letter from OLC." There was an attachment that is named, "Your reference and file number.jpg". Seemed fishy. Making sure that my virus protection was up to date, I...

8 hours so far into trying to get washer into pitot tube... by Bruno[_2_]
Long story short, I decided to go for broke and change out the two front rubber washers/ O rings in my pitot tube in the tail of my ASW-20B. Years of dry pitot tubes going in and out had taken their toll on the washers and they were starting to leak. Reminder to all - lightly grease your pitot...

Soaring conditions around the USA this season so far by son_of_flubber
May 2014 in Vermont was excellent for this year. I managed to fly on seven days. 4/7 days had rare strong lift, high ceilings, and reasonable wind. Last year June was mostly rain, but maybe the good weather pattern will continue. I'd be interested to read meteorological retrospection on why the...

XC Skies by JS
For years I've used XC Skies GFS as my standard reference. Ar the moment, it seems to have turned to rubbish. The New South Wales maps have a lot of square or rectangular areas in which the model changes drastically. Knowing it can't be real, I've switched to the local RASP models (which are...

Ugh. Flight trace didn't download off FLARM brick by Kurt Thams
After a sweet flight, I get home to discover that the flight trace did not copy onto the USB stick. Do I need to bring a computer with me to the airport to check each time before I leave the glider that the trace made it?
