Does anyone use the Club Class? by
Pat Russell[_2_]
Does any country run competitions in the IGC Club Class?
USA does not. We have the Sports Class, which allows any glider to
enter, and another Sports Class (called, locally, the Club Class)
which uses a restricted list of gliders that is different from the IGC
Club Class list.
In another thread,...

Glider inspection - Tampa Florida area by
John[_27_]
I will be leaving in the next day to do a cross-country (Oregon-
Florida-Oregon) pickup of a glider I plan on purchasing. It is in
need of an inspection so I was thinking of getting it inspected on the
way out back home. If you have a mechanic you would refer (preferably
familiar with...

rocha
Hi all.
I'm a glider pilot in the french northern alps and will be traveling
to Incline Village, NV in the week 3-7 May.
Google maps was nice enough to show me how close this is to Minden,
and after several nice articles and reports of great flights in this
region, i don't want to miss the chance...

Canadian Plans for Implementing Flight Simulator Training by
Piet Barber
At the SSA convention in Little Rock, I saw and was very impressed by
Dan Cook's presentation on Canadian Plans for using Flight Simulators
for training (Sat Jan 30 Fulton room, 1:00 - 1:45). I have some
further questions for him, but I can't find any contact information.
If anybody has any way...

thermal detector? by
Robin
I've imagined that birds detect thermals in part with superior vision.
They can see the little bits of stuff in the air that show motion. Now
it looks like America's Cup sailors will be lighting up the little
bits with lasers.

Cirrus collides with Glider/Towplane by
Jody
This doesn't look good for our sport. It seems that the Cirrus hit
the towline and the towplane and Cirrus went down despite the
ballistic chute on the Cirrus. The glider released and landed
safely. But guess where the blame will...

(USA) 2010 Program Letters (have FAA requirements changed?) by

I recently submitted my 2010 Program Letter to my local FSDO, and he
replied with "In reviewing your program letter it was determined that
it needs to be revised", followed by excerpts from 8130.2F 11/5/2004
(page 166). (Alas he did not get specific wrt the needed revisions.)
All I did was take my...

None[_2_]
"Having the "right of way" only works if the other pilot see's you.
He can't "yield" to what he does not see."
Of course! My comment was directed, through the readers, to those
who would say that having gliders in the air is the problem. Having
the right-of-way didn't help the tow pilot, maybe...

Typical glider & trailer total weight? by
Roger Worden[_2_]
What would you say is a typical or average glider trailer weight? I
know, "it depends"... but what is typical?
I'm shopping for a new vehicle and will buy one that I could use if I
crew for someone or to move our club gliders around. Gliders that I
have moved around range from 450 to 850 pounds. I...
