Pitts Screw Question by VTflyer
I was planning on purchasing the Aircraft Spruce S2A hardware kit for an S1C. I wanted to check and see if the sheet metal on the S2A is held together with 10-32 screws as it is on my aircraft, a quick yes or no would be all I need. Thanks!

Smart CDI diesel engine by Hans Zwakenberg
Hi group, can someone please tell me whether efforts are on the way already to turn the Smart CDI diesel engine into an aircraft engine? I'm looking for something (preferably a diesel) in the 80HP range. Maximum weight should be appr. 75 Kg (165 lb). It looks to me the larger of the Smart CDI's...

Opinions on Azusa aluminum wheels/brakes/axles? by RTW
Just for the record, I have a set of Azusa wheels and brakes on a clone of a Kitfox, built as an ultralight (empty wt 254#). The wheels are OK, but the brakes are not adequate, even at that low weight.. "richard riley" wrote in...

Anyone dissapointed with Oshgosh? by Lou Parker
I'm building a wood and fabric plane and would have loved to talk to others about their planes but there were none to be found. I looked for manufacturers of wooden kits but only Fisher had the gonads to show their product. If the wood kits are as good as we are led to believe, why don?t they show...

LED tail strobe by Jeff Peterson
I am building an LED tail light for my Lancair 360. It uses 6 ea 5 watt luxeon LEDs. I can strobe 1 amp through each of these which should give enough light to satisfy the FAA regs. Runs surprisingly cool. I have posted photos he http://w1.lancair.net/pix/album01\ Its not quite finished,...

A question on Airworthiness Inspection by Dave S
Ok.. I have a real problem with what you just described. An AC, by the FAA's own definition, is considered an ACCEPTABLE means of compliance, but not the ONLY means of compliance with the rule. So if the AC says its acceptable, then there is no basis for it to be rejected solely on those...

Lowest cost per mile flown motor- 2 stroke by Bruce A. Frank
In theory the lead provides lubrication, but in application it causes sticking and burned valves from un-even deposits on the sealing surfaces of the valve and seat. Now if you have rotators on the valves there might be a different story. With the materials used in valves and valve seats, even ...

Big John Bites Dicks (Security Clearance) by Badwater Bill
I haven't gone to the archives and looked at prior activities of BWB but if they match what has shown up on r.a.h. lately and what others have said about him, then I can get his clearances pulled if they are still active. I'm not making threats, just pointing out what can be done in...

transponder check? by Russell Duffy
Greetings, I'm expecting to make the first flight of an RV-3 later this month, and am trying to figure out exactly what needs to be done about the transponder. Does anyone know for sure? Since the plane is day VFR only, I'm pretty sure I don't need to have the pitot static system tested. Lots of...

Pre-Rotator Powered by Compressed Air? by nuke
"...Liquified nitrogen gas can store a lot of energy, pressure-wise..." Not so. The reason people store N2 in the liquid phase is that the density is high so you store a lot of mass for little volume. Also if you keep it liquified you can store it in a lightweight thin wall tank. To keep...

heater control for curing oven by [email protected]
I'm into recumbents and am exploring building a mold for a prepreg carbon setup. This looks like an active site for composites. Can anyone recommend a heater control to adjust the heating/cooling ramp rate (5 degrees a minute, etc)? I'm obviously trying to keep costs down so something surplus or...

multi engine ultralight trainers by jic
Why are there no multi engine ultralight trainers? I have about twenty hours behind a 912 and two forced landings already. It sure would be nice not depending on a single powerplant. Are two 40 hp engines unable to do the work of a 80hp?

Flying on the Cheap - Wood by [email protected]
