High Altitude operations (Turbo charge???) by
Andre
I operate off an airfield with a ground elevation of 5327 feet ASL.
Obviously my engine (VW 1835cc with Zenith Carb) feels the altitude
somewhat.
I am thinking....
Would Turbo charging help?
What about an electric blower to increase manifold pressure maybe?
Or how about a NOS system?

Jabiru and Rotax engines by
Marco Rispoli
I am doing some research into ultralight engines (planning to build one).
The Rotax 912S and the Jabiru 3300 are the models i am looking into.
Does anyone know how much it costs to maintain them? I just need very
generic examples to get an idea.
How much does it cost to overhaul them (one or the...

Why are low-revving, high torque engines preferred? by
Oliver Arend
This may sound like a stupid question; I realize the prop can only
turn at a certain speed to avoid transonic effects at the tips and has
to be turned with a certain torque to transmit the power needed/
produce enough thrust. So far so good.
But why does the torque have to be produced by the...

SWRFI Pirep.. (long) by
Dave S
I made a day trip out to the SouthWest Regional Flyin held this weekend
in New Braunsfels KBAZ, Texas and thought I would share a little of
what I found. Of course, once you have attended Oshkosk/Airventure,
nothing will compare or measure up... but overall it was an enjoyable trip.
I have to...

Simpy One of Many Stories of a Time Not So Long Ago by
Badwater Bill
You guys have written some cool stories in a thread above. Here's one
I wrote tonight. Here's fictional story number #69a.
It's not polished. It's just a draft. Some of you might like it. Some
of you might identify with it. But, most of all, I hope you enjoy it
because I hope it puts you there....

High Cost of Sportplanes by
Gordon Arnaut
It seems a lot of people have been writing letters to Kitplanes magazine
complaining about the unexpectedly steep prices of the new crop of
factory-built sportplanes. So the editor of that publication decided to
respond. His message: Get used to it.
This really infuriated me, not only because the...

Asch 82T engine availability? by
tffy
I was curious if anyone knew of availability and the source of the
Russian Asch-82t 14-cylinder radial motors such as those used on the
full-scale FW-190 copy built by some guys in Germany. I'm assuming that
the row of engines they have aren't all rebuilds. (link below) Just
curious, I guess... I...

homemade EFIS system and EMI by
jcpearce
As a pet/learning project I made a data aquisition unit using an 8051
microprocessor and an EPIA M motherboard running a variant of Linux to
process and display the information. It all works but the EMI from the
EPIA M causes way too much noise to the aircraft radios. I have tried
shielding the...

Helicopter headset plug - help needed by
NewsGroups
I need some help for a customer on wiring a helicopter headset plug into
the XCOM rado.
The plug in question is known as a Nexus plug or a US Nato plug or a
U-174/U or a TP-101, you can see how it becomes hard to find out what
this really is.....
Does anyone know what the different connectors are...

DAVIS DA - 8 by
Sbtypesetter
About a dozen years ago I had several phone conversations with
Lleon Davis. He sent me some literature and an 8 x 10 of the
(DA -8?) TX-1. The plane has been built but Lleon offers no
plans for the plane. Has anyone heard of someone who has bought
this plane and will be offering plans for it? ...

ALTRAK pitch system flight report by

I installed the ALTRAK standalone pitch axis autopilot made by TruTrak

This augments the already installed STEC 30 roll axis autopilot. Making up
the wire harness that connects
the servo to the computer to the aircraft instrument panel is
straightforward and took 2...

I Wanna Build an Aeroplane by
Badwater Bill
Yep. My wife and I decided that we want to build us an aeroplane.
What we want is something that has 6 seats for the kids. It has to go
250 miles in an hour and only burn 6 gallons an hour. It has to be
cool looking, have wheels that fold up, go through clouds and bad
weather and be capbable of...

Surface radiators for water cooled engines by
Harry Burns
Intercoolers of the same config. were used on early model P-38's. They ducted
pressurized air along the insides of the leading edges, then into the carb.
They all had problems with cooling efficency and leaks.
Several famous Thompson Trophy (sea/float planes) winners used surface
radiators to...

status of Delta Hawk diesel by
jan olieslagers[_2_]
The Delta Hawk has been VERY slow to come to the market, yet I have a
vague memory of the first samples being very close to release.
Anyone know the details, or of any flying apart from factory test/demo
planes?
TIA,
