Preheat by
PaulaJay1
Winter is comming to Ohio ( thou the 60 deg day today disagrees) and the
subject of engine preheat arrises. I have a Tannis for the cylinders and a pad
to heat the oil. I can call the FBO and have them plug it in an hour before I
arrive and the engine is, at least, not cold to the touch. Still...

Overhaul? Lead flakes in oil - interpretation please by
Les Sullivan
I have a 1972 Cessna 172 with a Lycoming 0-320-E2D engine and it runs
beautifully. It is on UK private category.
The engine is "original" and total time is about 2800 hours.
The engine had a thorough top overhaul quite a few years ago, maybe
around 1500 hours (new pistons etc) and has no problems...

What to look for - bringing an aircraft back to life by
Louis L. Perley III
I seek the collective wisdom of the group. As I have mentioned previously, I
was the co-owner of a 1965 Piper Aztec, due to various conflicts in the
partnership, the plane has not flown in two and a half years (approx.) most
of this time it has been in a heated hangar, but has been out in the...

Alternator Noise -- Part 2 by
Jonathan Goodish
Thanks to all for the suggestions on this topic. I spoke with a guy at
Electrosystems (now Kelly Aerospace) about this particular problem and
he mentioned the most common cause as one of the following:
1 -- One or more failing diodes;
2 -- Inadequate grounding between engine and airframe;
3 --...

LASAR ignitions by
Nathan Young
The left mag on my Cherokee went bad. For some time, I have been
considering replacing the Bendix mags with the Unison Lasar system, so
perhaps this is the time to do it.
Is anyone on the NG flying with a LASAR ignition? If so, I would
appreciate your comments. Have you experienced any quirks...

Jury did it again by
Kevin
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A jury found an airplane parts manufacturer negligent
in the 2000 plane crash that killed Gov. Mel Carnahan and his son, and
awarded their family $4 million.
The Carnahan family's attorney argued that a pair of vacuum pumps made
by Parker Hannifin Corp. failed, causing the plane...

Cowl Mount Modification for Cessna 175A by
Clay[_2_]
Is it possible and practical to eliminate the standard cowl mount
brackets and attach the cowl to the fuselage with Cam Lock fasteners?
I would like to consider the CAM LOCK 4000 series (stainless with
phillips head)
Is there an STC for this modification for a C-175A?

Learning piston engine basics by
[email protected]
Is there a good place on the web that describes the basics and
terminology of piston engines? I understand the basic concepts, but
some of the terms I read, like journals and bosses, etc., are a bit
beyond me and I'd like to get a little bit better knowledge of the
concepts. I'm definitely not...

182 panel by
Jim
Does anybody know what would be the oldest Cessna 182 that one could
re-configure into a standard T "8-pack"? I've seen a '69 done this way, but
older models look like they have a curved panel with less room.
Thanks!

vor head needed by
blanche cohen
Well, the old (very old!) Narco VOR head died. Actually, I noticed it
was dead over a year ago, but it was on the 2nd nav/com so I really
didn't care. But I'm thinking of starting IFR training (again, for
the 3rd time) and the 2nd VOR would be nice.
Don't need the ILS portion, I have a perfectly...

Backup attitude indicator on older Cirrus by
[email protected][_1_]
Has anyone seen an installation of a backup attitude indicator in an
older Cirrus without the PFD? Every panel I've seen has the same
layout, and there doesn't appear to be any extra space. It looks like
an HSI could be installed and the space for the CDI/Glideslope could
be used for an attitude...

wiring second radio and noise by

Hello all,
Our aircraft (Ms 893E) is wired with one VHF comm (old Narco 11A - but
functionning with noise mind you). We decided to install a new comm
(found an Icom A200). The present setup is wired to a hard wired (no
jacks just wires) Telex intercom TC 200. We have two problems.
The first is the...

Cessna 182 by
[email protected]
Group:
I'm in the market for an older Cessna 182.
Preferably with low or mid-time engine and prop, STOL, Clevelands, one-
piece windshield, decent radios and encoding transponder.
Paint and interior not that important.
Anyone out there looking to sell, or know of one?
