LAS approaches by
Ron Garret
Some questions about flying to LAS:
1. The RNAV RWY 1R (http://naco.faa.gov/d-tpp/0903/00662R1R.PDF) has
two IAFs: BOACH and SKEBR. I can find BOACH on the enroute chart (on
V21 between WHIGG and CRESO) but not SKEBR. Where is it?
2. Same question for KACCY intersection, which is the IAF...

Departure Procedure jStumper Question by
[email protected]
Take a look at Salmon Idaho KSMN, Ahehu 1 RNAV Dept (Obstacle). I
realize few aircraft are equipped to fly this, however;
1. Notice the "at 200 kt" requirement for some waypoints. Is this
TAS, GS, or IAS? And a reference please if you know of one.
2. Why is the stipulation "at" instead of...

ILS approach and VOR Alpha Approach video by
[email protected]
Knocked out a couple of approaches today in IMC conditions. Was cut
short due to a vacuum system problem (note, not the pump).
Ceilings 1500 at KJAN and 1400 on my approach into KMBO.

Iis there a weather chart with cloud base and tops depicted? by
Terence Wilson
Here in the San Francisco Bay Area we've had coastal clouds in the
mornings with ceilings in the 1000-2000 range recently, 10-20 miles
west of Oakland the clouds dissipate completely. I was wondering
weather there exists a reliable way of determining the cloud tops
(other than PIREPs).

Went flying with a firend of mine who has this installed in his

Question When we have the auopilot on with Nav mode clicked
On the 530 we have GPS in the window, shouldn't the aitpilot follow
the 530 Flight plan or direct to or approach selected course?

Manufacturers And Training by

Reading one of the piloting web/video services and came across this
comment:
"Still; there remains the specter of trouble ahead... as most of the
better offerings at the USSAE (LSA aircraft) cost well over 100K... and
we're not sure that there is a sustainable market for aircraft in that
price...

1961 Cessna 210A Part 135 810 S/FReman $25,800 ? by
Victor Bravo
The bidding on the Cessna 210 ebay austion is halfway over, only 4
days left. So far the high bid os only $25,800 which would be the
steal of the century...uhhh... I mean the steal of the Centurion! Put
in a reasonable bid and you might fly away in a really nice airplane !
This airplane was...

finding approach chart URLs by
Dave Butler
I know I can find them at various web sites, please don't bother to
respond to tell me about them.
Here's what I'd like: given an airport identifier, say "KLHZ", I'd like
an programmatic, algorithmic way or a table lookup to find all the NACO
approach chart URLs,...

localizer approach and gs intercept altitude by

Hi everyone. A quick question from an instrument student:
If I am flying a localizer approach where there is a glide slope intercept
alitude (lightning bolt) that is lower than the inbound altitude prior to
the final approach fix, can I descend to the gs intercept altitude although
I am flying...

How to be safely stupid by
scott moore
Interesting call today. I talked to S-TEC/Meggit. I am doing my
annual and wanted to cure a longstanding issue with my S-TEC 30
autopilot.
The issue was that when dimming the unit down, when you turn the
potentiometer below a certain value, the light on the S-tec 30
goes to full bright.
The S-tec...

I hate turn coordinators by
john hawkins
Why is the turn coordinator so popular? I find the presentation similar to
the artificial horizon is poor. The good old turn needle never leads to any
confusion. If the silly little airplane was replaced by a needle and dog
houses, I think I'd like it better. The 4 minute needle gives superior...

Why some approaches are NA as alternates by
Ben Jackson
What is the reason for an approach (or a whole airport) to be NA as
an alternate? Is there some attribute an approach has to have to be
worthy of being filed as an alternate?
The one that got me wondering was KAST (Astoria, OR) which is NA except
for the VOR Rwy 8 when it also has ILS/LOC and GPS...

GPS 16L at KHEF by

Hello. I see there are lots of smart folks in this NG and I learn a lot
from you. I have a question that I sure someone can answer for me. I'm not
so knowledgeable about some of the GPS approach procedures. I was reviewing
the GPS 16L @ KHEF (Manassas VA) and am not sure which DH is applicable...

VFR on top by
MC
Australia is changing/rearranging its' airspace model to more closely
line-up with ICAO and also to be a _very_ close copy of the current
USA system.
Basically there will be a heck of a lot of class-E. (usually bottomed
at FL180, but in some areas down to A085).
Our radar coverage won't change...
