Radio license required? by
Marty Ross
When I first learned the memory aid for required documents, it was "ARROW".
When I inquired why sometimes I saw "AROW", I remember being told that the
second "R" was dropped because while flying within the USA you don't need
the "Radio License".
I glanced through the FAR/AIM and couldn't quickly...

RFI in NW Arkansas by
Ross Richardson
I am looking for pilots in the Fayetteville, AR area to monitor approach
on 120.9 and listen for any unusual sounds. I am hearing a pinging about
every 57 seconds. It occurred on two separate trips about a month apart.
I am helping the FAA out of Ft Worth, Texas. They are aware of this from
prior...

Car plows through market, killing 8 by
David Gunter
Perhaps it's the rarity of GA events that make them stand out in peoples
minds. I know of someone who's been keeping active track of the "Car plows
into..." headlines and it is quite amazing how many there have this year
alone. I don't have the number but I know it's in the 2 digits...

Requesting Flight Following from ground control by
Yossarian
I just learned recently that this was possible at my little airport,
Hawthorne CA (KHHR). Presumably they get a squawk for you from SoCal and
arrange your radar coverage. Couple questions--
1. What is the phraseology of the request to ground?
--I'm guessing it's just "ground, cessna 1234 can...

Pilot runs out of fuel waiting for security clearance by

I could be mistaken, but I think the previous point might have
been that bitching on USENET, while possibly therapeutic, has
no practical effect.
I agree that contacting elected officials is our only recourse.

Rentals at BUR by
Dan Katz
I used to fly out of BUR, and when they closed Pilots Co-op (became
Burbank Aviators), that was the virtual end of rentals at BUR. I moved
over to VNY and rent out of Blue Skies - of course, there are a lot of
rental facilities at VNY. Shame though, since BUR is a great airport
to fly in and out...

Looking for practice area outside HPN by
journeyman
I've lately come to the conclusion that the airspace around NYC is
just too (expletive) busy. Last night, I wound up tucked inside
the triangle formed by Bridgeporrt, Danbury, and Waterbury-Oxford,
carefully watching the GPS to make sure I didn't drift into anyone's
class D while practicing...

Aircraft Designations by
David Townend
The second printing of "Military Aircraft Designations and Systems" is still
available. We were out of print soon after our October 2002 printing so it
is good to have copies available again. We are also able to hold the
original price, too. Military Aircraft designations
catalogued from 1913 to...

Twilight Zone origins by
Montblack
Fans thought Rod Serling invented the term "Twilight Zone." As a matter of
fact, so did Serling. He'd not heard anyone use it before, so he assumed
he'd created it. However, after the hit TV show debuted in 1959, Serling was
informed that Air Force pilots used the phrase to describe "a moment when...

Flying is proof of Freedom, was: Happy Fourth, Folks! by

Oh boy. I feel obligated to reply, so here goes:

Not off topic, the subject is declaring independence from tyranny.
The thread was a loose spun conglomeration of many issues. Freedom from
tyranny is the one you seem to have taken to, in the context of aviation.
OK, I'll keep...
