Big Name schools and Insurance Rates by
Newbie
Can anyone tell me clearly whether doing my IR rating at a big name
establishment (like Flight Safety, not to name anyone in particular) will
have a positive effect on my insurance rates the day I purchase a plane?
If so, is it a significant effect?

Mackinac Island by
Jon Kraus
The wife and I are contemplating a trip up to Mackinac Island, Michigan
the last weekend in August. Have any of you been there (flown or
otherwise)? If so any recommendations for lodging , eats, etc...
I looks like it will be a really neat flight up there and it is kinda
like stepping back in...

Water detector by
Paul kgyy
I saw an Ad in TAP this week for a Comanche with a "water in fuel"
detector. Anybody know anything about this - where it resides, how it
works, who sells it?
It seems to me it could be a valuable tool, but a lot would depend on
where the sensor is located.

I saved a life, maybe you can save mine. by

I saved a life, maybe you can save mine.
Hi! My name is Jason Andrew. I am a 20 year old lifeguard from Northern
Michigan. I am going through some tough times in life. To be honest, I
am currently going through a break up, I am unemployed, in a little
debt and I need some help. I have a great idea...

Hurricane Dennis cont'd by
Dan Luke
Went to Mobile Downtown Airport this morning to fly my airplane out of
harm's way, and ended up leaving it there.
I saw the line guys putting the bizjets in their hangars and, with
minimal begging and pleading, got them to stuff '87D in there with the
Citations and Lears. The building is supposed...

Fair Share by
Mike Granby
I flew to a fly-in today with my two sons (aged 1 and 2) and two adult
coworkers. My buddies want to pay their fair share, but as I private
pilot I am obviously limited under FAR 61.118 as to what I can accept.
So, what share of the direct costs should I take from each coworker?
33%? 20%? Or their...

Autopilot install. by
Jimmy B.
Hey all, I'm getting quotes to put an autopilot in the bug smasher. Of
course S-Tec is the big dog in the field. I was looking at their units
that fill one of the 3" holes.
My bird has a plastic panel to cover the instrument cluster.
One shop recommended against 50/60 unit because they said...

Filling Holes by
AKperson
I just purchased a 172 and the previous owner removed a top mounted gps
antenna. What is the recommended procedure for filling holes?
He used silicone in the screw holes and a button type patch for the
antenna hole.
thanks

Another Lycoming Crankshaft SB by

Thankfully, no Aviat Huskies are affected. They are not the balanced
crankshaft models (which end in 6). Mine is 1996 anyway. This if going
to affect a lot of planes.

Sales Tax Deduction by
Mark B
Help me understand this as it seems too good to be true. For this tax
year (2005) we can choose to deduct sales tax on aircraft, if it is
taxed at the same rate, from income on our federal returns. So, if I
live in Texas (no state income tax) and if I buy an aircraft from a
Texas dealer before...
