IFR Bahamas? by smf
Does anyone know about filing IFR in the Bahamas? I went to the Out Island (Stella Maris) this past weekend. On return I filed a DVFR plan. It took about 40 minutes flying time to get close enough to Nassau to contact Naussau App. Does Mia center cover that far out? thanks Steve

IFR Cancellation Question by A Lieberma
Severe clear today, so other then the safety net of ATC services, weather wasn't an issue. Coming back from HBG (Hattiesburg MS) to MBO (Madison MS) encountered the following exchange with ATC. I was already told to expect the visual approach in my inital contact with approach controller. ...

IFR checkride coming up... by Tom[_5_]
Hi guys. I've been doing my training, took the written yesterday and have my checkride in 2 weeks. Couple of questions. 1) The tolerance for MDAs on the test is +100/-0. The natural response to this is of course to target the altitude MDA+50ft, giving 50ft buffer in either direction. My question...

IFR checkride in IMC: PASSED! by gatt
When the weather is bad and the examiner gives you the option of delaying for better weather, don't say "Well, if I can't pass my checkride in IMC I'm probably not qualified for the IFR rating." First attempt at the checkride. Icing forecast at 6,000. Examiner said "No problem. We probably...

IFR Checkride Scheduled by Jon Kraus
I have my IFR checkride scheduled for April 21st... To make it even more exciting my CFII talked me into taking my ride with a DE that is getting his certification for giving instrument checkrides... So not only will he be there but a representative from the FAA will be riding along critiquing...

IFR Checkride WX Questions by kevmor
So my IR checkride is approaching, and the thing I'm the most sketchy on I think is the weather charts. I'm fine with TAF, METAR, and other textual, but I guess it's because I can't find all the exact same graphics on DUATS/DUAT that they use on the FAA exam (prognostic charts, etc). Even...

IFR checkride: passed by [email protected]
About a year after I started the initial training I finally passed my checkride last week. The cross country hours took me forever to build up. I finished that off with a nice flight from Hawthorne, CA to Oakland to see the Dodgers play across the bay. The oral went perfectly, it was only about...

IFR currency by Chris
I know the rules on IFR currency as far as the FAA certificate is concerned but I have a scenario which my be worth a debate. A pilot holds independently both a FAA/IR and a JAR/IR. The JAR IR is valid for 12 months and must be revalidated in the three months preceding the expiry of the rating,...

IFR currency rules are perverse by Ron Garret
The clouds rolled in to SoCal last week so I wanted to go fly some approaches, but I had fallen out of currency the week before so I couldn't go. It occurred to me that one can easily get into a situation where you can have quite a bit of recent IFR experience but still not be current. The...

IFR Currency via Simulator; No CFI? by [email protected]
I know this is an old topic, but looking back into the archives of this group, I couldn't find a definitive or current answer. And, this came up for me yesterday when I booked a simulator for IFR currency. I called Advanced Aviation Simulators at APA to try out their service. Based on my...

IFR flight from KNEW to KMBO by [email protected]
Lots of lessons learned for me on this flight. Video covers from talking to Clearance Delivery to IFR cancellation. Also the video has my progressive taxi instructions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX21Kccu5Bs I operate in the "land of direct" and usually get questioned if I file anything...

IFR flight plan cancellation time by Gerald S.
I had filed a flight plan for 8pm local the other night. I tried amending the departure time as I was leaving 1.5 hours later than the proposed time. I called the FSS and was told the IFR flight plan gets deleted by the system 2 hours after the proposed departure time. I thought it was 45...

IFR flight plan with multiple stops by gregscheetah
A recent flight planning software package I am trying creates a single flight plan - say from DSM to Jeffco. Even tho there is a fuel stop in KLBF, about midway. This is what it wants to file with DUATS. My question is: I have always thought it was necessary to file two flight plans - one DSM...
