I Wanna Build an Aeroplane by
Badwater Bill
Yep. My wife and I decided that we want to build us an aeroplane.
What we want is something that has 6 seats for the kids. It has to go
250 miles in an hour and only burn 6 gallons an hour. It has to be
cool looking, have wheels that fold up, go through clouds and bad
weather and be capbable of...

zzzzzzzzzzzzzz and Adam aircraft by
[email protected]
Whats with mooz and Adam aircraft? Didn't last year he have some sort
of gripe with them for taking their new jet to a fly-in? In todays blog
he came down on them for doing what alot of others have done. He is
barking about the Certification claims of Adam. They claim that they
are FAA...

Dennis Fetters Mini 500 by
EmailMe
I have no ties to any of this Dennis Fetters guy or the Mini 500
debacle.
I ran across these postings about Dennis a few months back and started
reading all I could on the groups and the web about Fetters and this
helicopter.
All I can say is unbelievable....
I have read things tossed back and...

funny by

There's a show on NPR called Cartalk. 2 car mechanics supposedly giving
advice to callers but really it's just an excuse for them to goof around.
Hysterical. There's a segment about a guy wanting to put a Subaru engine in
an experiment plane. Scroll down to Mazda Miata with...

High Altitude operations (Turbo charge???) by
Andre
I operate off an airfield with a ground elevation of 5327 feet ASL.
Obviously my engine (VW 1835cc with Zenith Carb) feels the altitude
somewhat.
I am thinking....
Would Turbo charging help?
What about an electric blower to increase manifold pressure maybe?
Or how about a NOS system?

DIY Two-Stroke Engine Construction Methods by
durabol[_2_]
The two main methods for homebuilt construction would be casting vs.
machining or some combination of both (probably the best option).
Forging probably isn't appropriate for home construction (either the
piston or connecting rod).
One method I have thought of is to produce a wax model of the...

Ok, what about the BD5 by
Whome?
Ok, we have roasted the Mini 500, how about the BD5?
First things first, forget the jet. So few people could ever afford such a
thing it hardly seems viable from the get-go. But why has such a popular
design (on paper) found so little success? Thousands of people instantly fell
in love with it...

Advice, please: too old to fly? by
R.W. Behan
There can be no better source of advice than this group for my question: am
I too old to take up flying--and building an airplane?
Full disclosure. As a young man in the Korean War I was an aviation
machinist's mate in the Navy. As a forestry student in the late '50's I was
a smokejumper, so I...

Can I fly it at night? by
bstanton
I have a 1941 Chief with lights on it. There's one light on
each wingtip and one on the top of the fin. There's no
anticollision light/strobe or landing light. There are
wires from the 3 position lights to the cockpit, where they
end. The engine has no alternator or generator and never
has had...

Flying on the Cheap - Wood by
[email protected]
To All:
A few years ago I posted an article offering some hints about how to
build an inexpensive airplane that was safe and reliable (Flying on the
Cheap, October 2001; Google will find it for you). The key point in
the article was the use of commonly available mild steel tubing for...

I am looking into a power plant for a Zenith 701. I am very interested
in going the route of a diesel. Would anybody have any information on

Smart (Mercedes) 3 cyl. 95 hp Turbo Diesel (can be chipped up to 112
hp) found in the Smart ForFour or VW Lupo or Fox (euro) 3 cyl....

Z's network? by
TSS7
Is it the general consensus that Zoom's Aero News Network is not
completely trustworthy? It would seem he is just re-posting news he
gets from some source. But I wonder if he doesn't "doctor up" the
articles himself. If he's doing that, then they should throw him off
the internet. I wonder if there...

Well, it wouldn't work for me but the idea might be developed into a

No cross country, of course. That...

Surface radiators for water cooled engines by
Harry Burns
Intercoolers of the same config. were used on early model P-38's. They ducted
pressurized air along the insides of the leading edges, then into the carb.
They all had problems with cooling efficency and leaks.
Several famous Thompson Trophy (sea/float planes) winners used surface
radiators to...
