Aus. experimental question by
Fooman
Under current australian regulations, it is my belief that to be registered
experimental you have to build a majority of the aircraft yourself, from
parts, kits, whatever, so, you are not permitted to put say, an automotive
engine onto the front of a certified aircraft and register it...

De-certifying aircraft regs in Canada by
Fooman
Morning all. Is someone able to point me in the right direction to find the
legislation/Acts/Regulations etc in relation to de-certifying aircraft in
canada, to experimental status so mods can be done. Seems like a good and
logical idea.
Many thanks in advance.
Rob

Modifying certified to experimental in Aus.-auto engining and avionics by
Fooman
Evening all.
I started a similar thread a while ago, but have done some more reasearch
since. I will be sending this post to SAAA, to see what they think.
As I understand it, you may put an auto engine into a certified aircraft in
australia, and the legislation states that a request to do so must...

Rebuilding my KR-2 by
Forrest
Corrie wrote that his someday mobile is an Emeraude.
I've never heard of it. The dream on my wall is the Lanceair turbine. But
I'll have to get a few more places rented before I can play that game.
Maybe change my mind by then too. It's a while off.

Rebuilding my KR-2 by
Forrest
The following is an email I sent to Jim Weir of KitPlanes Magazine.
Jim requested that I post my message to this newsgroup and and open these
issues up for discussion. I'm the new guy to aviation.

Rebuilding my KR-2 by
Forrest
My wife normally does the computer stuff. So if some of my posts come off
as novice, well, guess what.....
I will post a couple of responses and pull out some of the repeated stuff as
follows.

Rebuilding my KR-2(kind of S) by
Forrest
I figure that since I am quite new to aviation I must be coming off as kind
of dim-witted. I'm rebuilding this KR-2. It is an experimental. So I am
experimenting. And trying to do something large cool on small money. And
not small in aviation speak but small in po'folk speak.
I've spoken to...

Rebuilding my KR-2 by
Forrest
Still getting to know my airplane. It's dimensions are not the same as
either the KR-2 or the 2S. Still figuring out how I'm going to weigh the
thing. Probably stack the parts on two or three scales then weigh the
engine. I'll come up short of what the cowling would weigh since it was
junky,...

Weight saving exercise. by
Fortunat1
I have to begin making a few decisions on how to drop a few pounds (off my
butt and my airplane!)
For one, I'm considering making the composite tank as outlined in Tony
Bengelis' book. This would be the foam/glass sandwich he describes. Questin
is, is it lighter than the aluminum tank specified in...

Welding; How much undercut? by
Fortunat1
Some of the welding manuals I have say that a certain amount of undercut is
inevitable. Certainly in examining the fuselages of some factory aircraft
I've seen some shockingly large errors like this in the finished welds. On
many of my practice wleds, particularly on tubing clusters, an...

Citabria Wheel track? by
Fortunat1
Anyone know off-hand what the wheel track is on a Citabria? Either from the
wheel centers, or even better, from the outside of the wheels? I need to
know if I can fit it in a container with the gear on. Searched the net for
the info, no dice..

North Aire floats. by
Fortunat1
Anyone have experience with these? Wag Aero are selling plans for these
still. Anyone know of their history? were they always a homebuilt design?
Are they compartmentalised like Edos? Performance? ease of building,
expense?
TIA!

Reaming by
Fortunat1[_12_]
Another stupid question!
Been reaming holes in a few 4130 plates. The reamer worked fine for about
20 holes and then the holes started getting a bit smaller to the point the
bolts got a bit snug.
In my ignorance I thought this one hand reamer would pretty much last me
the whole project, but...

Prop info sources by
Fortunat1[_8_]
Anyone know of a site or combination of sites with a comprehensive list of
suitable props for a given airframe/engine combination?
I've been keying in searches to beat the band and getting very little
outside of Aircraft spruce's info.
Fixed pitch only, BTW

Plating 4130 parts by
Fortunat1[_9_]
I have access to a plating facility (aviation, but it's a jet engine
rebuild shop) where I can get my wing fittings plated. My understanding is
that 4130 cad plating is just that, cadmium and nothing else, but this shop
does it's cad plating by a coating of nickel first and then cad plating.....

New LSA rules by
Frank
I thought that I understood the new Sport Pilot/Aircraft rules (first
mistake) until I came across the fact that apparently you can buy a ready to
fly CH601HD made by Zenair in the US that is registered as a sLSA, or you
can buy the same ready to fly plane built by Czech Aircraft Works and
register...

Ground plane by
Frank
Can any one tell me how much signal I will lose if the ground plane is not
directly under the radiating element? What if I have to move it 2' away,
although still tied to co-ax shield?
